Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was reportedly denied access to the away end at the Etihad Stadium<\/a> ahead of the match between Manchester City<\/a> and Borussia Dortmund. Carragher had been at Anfield on Tuesday night, watching his former team triumph over Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just a day later, Carragher was in Manchester to cover City’s home clash with Dortmund in the fourth league phase match of the Champions League <\/a>for CBS Sports. The 47-year-old was seen walking towards the Etihad with Dortmund fans ahead of Wednesday night’s kick-off.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time that Carragher <\/a>has been spotted socialising with Dortmund fans during a Champions League tie.<\/p>\n

The ex-Liverpool defender was spotted at Signal Iduna Park’s renowned ‘Yellow Wall’ for Dortmund’s semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain back in 2024, where he celebrated with supporters of the German club.<\/p>\n

However, the Daily Mail<\/a> have reported that Carragher tried to join Dortmund fans in the away end at the Etihad on Wednesday evening but was denied entry by both UEFA and City, with several reasons being given.<\/p>\n

City and UEFA chose not to comment, with it being claimed that the Cityzens were wary about allowing a former Liverpool<\/a> player in the away end to support Dortmund. UEFA also reportedly believed Carragher’s press credentials were not sufficient to enter the away end.<\/p>\n

City triumphed in the match with a 4-1 victory, thanks to goals from Phil Foden<\/a> (two), Erling Haaland<\/a> and Rayan Cherki, setting the stage for the crucial Premier League<\/a> showdown against title contenders Liverpool on Sunday (4.30pm).<\/p>\n

Later, Carragher was spotted on the touchline with fellow CBS Sports pundit Peter Schmeichel<\/a>, discussing his journey to the Etihad with Dortmund’s travelling fans.<\/p>\n

“It’s been fantastic, we had a great walk in from Manchester city centre to the ground,” Carragher told CBS Sports during the pre-match build-up at the Etihad on Wednesday night. “They’re enjoying themselves, they’re looking forward to the game and they’re a little bit worried about Erling Haaland.<\/p>\n

“But they’ve got their own man up front in (Serhou) Guirassy, who we think might be able to cause a problem or two. They’re in full flight, and hopefully by the end of the game they’re going to really enjoy themselves, and I might join them.”<\/p>\n
