{"id":555146,"date":"2025-11-07T13:05:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T13:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/555146\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T13:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T13:05:11","slug":"ten-thousand-affordable-homes-to-be-built-says-wmca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/555146\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten thousand affordable homes to be built, says WMCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Figures show 7,450 households , which include almost 15,000 children, are living in temporary accommodation across the West Midlands, while more than 65,000 households are on social housing waiting lists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Parker has pledged to build 2,000 social rent homes each year by 2028, saying he wants to focus on the most affordable housing to tackle the region&#8217;s shortage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Since becoming mayor in May last year, Parker has used WMCA&#8217;s own housing funds to unlock more than 1,500 affordable homes on brownfield land, including more than 750 for social rent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Parker said: &#8220;For too long there&#8217;s been chronic under investment in social and affordable housing. That&#8217;s blighted thousands of West Midlands families who have been left struggling to pay expensive private sector rents or stuck in temporary accommodation that can often be poor quality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Helping these families into safe, warm homes that are genuinely affordable is the cornerstone of my Homes for Everyone priority.
