{"id":555224,"date":"2025-11-07T14:02:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T14:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/555224\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T14:02:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T14:02:17","slug":"great-yarmouth-film-creature-from-scroby-sands-wins-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/555224\/","title":{"rendered":"Great Yarmouth film Creature from Scroby Sands wins awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  And now The Creature from Scroby Sands has made a splash in the movie world after scooping two awards at an international event.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The film has landed two awards at the Fortean Film Festival in Gloucestershire for best comedy and best trailer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The Creature from Scroby Sands was premiered in Great Yarmouth last month.(Image: JS Studios) (Image: JS Studios)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The festival for independent filmmakers focuses on movies about the weird, the supernatural, the paranormal and the unexplained &#8211; with its title &#8216;Fortean&#8217; hailing from Charles Fort, a researcher of anomalous phenomena.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk\/news\/25524106.yarmouth-comic-horror-creature-scroby-sands-set-big-screen\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">making its debut on the big screen last month at<\/a> the town&#8217;s Ice House on Bridge Road, there was double delight for The Creature from Scroby Sands filmmakers.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The horror comedy was named Best Comedy and won Best Trailer in the 2025 instalment of the wacky and wonderful film festival.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The production team behind The Creature from Scroby Sands: James Weeds, Jordon Thomas Sendall (sitting), Kyle Ball and Daniel Coates. Image: On The Huh Productions (Image: On The Huh Productions)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Produced by childhood friends Jordon Thomas Sendall, Kyle Ball and James Weeds, the film tells the story of four teenagers who visit the seaside town for a holiday but soon come face to face with a demon from the depths as they are targeted by a mythical sea monster.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The cast of The Creature from Scroby Sands on Great Yarmouth beach. Image: On The Huh Productions (Image: On The Huh Productions)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Success at the film festival comes after 200 people enjoyed a red carpet premiere at the Ice House.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  For the film\u2019s producers, On The Huh Productions, nostalgia was hugely influential.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After starting development in 2021 the production took almost five years, as the movie morphed from an initial concept of a short film to a feature-length love letter to the Norfolk coast, its locals and its visitors.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Kyle Ball at the premiere of The Creature from Scroby Sands. Image: On The Huh Productions (Image: On The Huh Productions)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Art director Kyle Ball said: &#8220;It has been amazing to be part of this fantastic project, and it is so humbling to receive positive responses from audiences at home and across the country.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Writer James Weeds said: \u201cWe wanted to write a love letter to Yarmouth.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Director and editor Jordon Thomas Sendall said it was a \u201cpassion project&#8221;, adding he is keen to continue filmmaking.\n<\/p>\n<p>  &#8216;Absolutely fantastic&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\n  The premiere event at <a href=\"https:\/\/outtherearts.org.uk\/the-ice-house\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Ice House<\/a> in Yarmouth raised money for Caister Lifeboat and FAITH Animal Rescue.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>The premiere of The Creature from Scroby Sands. Image: On The Huh Productions (Image: On The Huh Productions)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The historic building, located at the Southtown end of Haven Bridge, was a key asset in the town\u2019s fishing industry.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk\/news\/24871769.new-great-yarmouth-ice-house-venue-opening-date-announced\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Since opening in May this year,<\/a> after a \u00a33m transformation, the Ice House has been repurposed into an arts and heritage hub led by Out There Arts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Out There\u2019s Marcin Rodwell said: \u201cCollaborating with On the Huh Productions has been a treat and really shows that Great Yarmouth is a place full of creatives.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The guest of honour for the premiere was Great Yarmouth mayor Carl Annison.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Cast and crew at the premiere of The Creature from Scroby Sands.
