Florian Wirtz’s dad has publicly commented on his son’s struggles at Liverpool – but vows the youngster has the talent to turn things around.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Germany international is yet to score since his \u00a3116million move<\/a> from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.<\/p>\n

It was Liverpool<\/a>‘s – and the British – record transfer until they paid \u00a3125m<\/a> to Newcastle United<\/a> for Alexander Isak later in the transfer window.<\/p>\n

It would be fair to say that Swedish striker’s switch to Merseyside isn’t working out well either, with Isak failing to score in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

For Wirtz<\/a>, who still remains the most expensive German footballer as well as boasting the biggest Bundesliga sale in history, he has chipped in with just three assists from 15 games in all competitions.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old has been in and out of the team, while playing him in his favoured position has proven to be a problem for Arne Slot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a run of terrible defeats, Slot has switched back to his tried and tested midfield three of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.<\/p>\n

This has seen Wirtz, who scored 16 goals for Leverkusen last term, rotate with Cody Gakpo on the left wing, which isn’t his preferred position.<\/p>\n

But due to the balance of the team, he is having to play there, and with the wait for a goal continuing, his father Hans has had his say<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Bild, he said: “My thought from the very beginning was to wait and see how the first ten league games went.<\/p>\n

“The incredible speed, the back and forth, that was very impressive for the first few games. <\/p>\n

“The distances covered and the speed were significantly greater. The style of play is sometimes enormously different because it doesn’t seem as organised, but rather more focused on pace.”<\/p>\n

However, his father is convinced Wirtz<\/a> will come good under Slot at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

He added: “I think the league table clearly shows that there’s still room for improvement in this football machine.<\/p>\n

“But the mechanics will sort that out, I hope, he’s such a good player that he can adapt to the demands there and that he enjoys it just as much as he did in the Bundesliga.”<\/p>\n

Despite a tough start with no goals or assists in ten Premier League games, Hans appreciates the support Slot has shown to his son.<\/p>\n

He stated: “It was important that Arne Slot spoke with Florian and explained his value to him.<\/p>\n

“He showed how he envisioned the collaboration and that convinced Florian.”<\/p>\n

While Wirtz may be keen to play in his natural role behind the striker, Slot believes he is best used as a versatile forward player with no defined position.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cFlorian can play in more than one position.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can play off the left, which he did almost all of the time in Leverkusen when Xabi Alonso came and introduced his 3-4-3 system.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore that, he mainly played as a No. 10 in a 4-3-3. I think it\u2019s more about getting him in the positions where he is good at than we should be so focused on ‘is he a No. 10, is he an No. 11 or is he an eight?\u2019.<\/p>\n
