County Road has double-yellow lines along its full length \u2014 but drivers are flouting restrictions, even parking in<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/merseytravel\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> bus stops<\/a> and causing people relying on public transit to miss rides into town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">When the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"ECHOLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">ECHO<\/a> visited, dozens of cars were parked illegally along the length of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/county-road\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"County RoadLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">County Road<\/a>. None had been slapped with parking tickets, and people at local business owners expressed frustration over what they saw as a lack of parking enforcement and cleansing in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Emil Rahaeanu, 36, owns Emil\u2019s Kitchen on Country Road, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/walton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Walton<\/a>. He said there are cars parked on double-yellows and on the pavement outside his small caf\u00e9 \u201call the time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cThey [customers of nearby businesses] come here and leave their cars for hours. I pay the council for a parking space and it\u2019s always full.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_IMG_4461JPGjpgEmil-Rahaeanu-36.jpg\" alt=\"Emil Rahaeanu, 36, outside his caf\u00e9, Emil's Kitchen, on County Road.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Emil Rahaeanu, 36, outside his caf\u00e9, Emil&#8217;s Kitchen, on County Road.(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cIt makes things difficult because people passing can\u2019t always see the front of the shop, and we don\u2019t have a space where customers can park to pick up deliveries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing we can do about it,\u201d said Emil of drivers parking illegally on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/county-road\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"County RoadLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">County Road<\/a>. \u201cThe council don\u2019t take it seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Emil said the issue had worsened since parking restrictions were extended in July, saying he hadn\u2019t \u201cseen a traffic warden for months\u201d on County Road. Previously, drivers could park for free in the city centre after 6pm \u2014 but must now pay to park until 11pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Emil also complained that illegal parking means the road sweeping vehicle cannot clean pavements effectively \u2014 \u201cwhen it turns up\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cIt used to come down here three times a week. Now, if you see it once then it\u2019s a good week. It\u2019s difficult to make a positive difference when there\u2019s so much rubbish around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Liverpool City Council says its enforcement officers operate &#8220;across the whole city&#8221; and that any vehicle found breaching rules will be given with a fine. The council added that cleansing teams &#8220;regularly clean each street across Liverpool and will remove fly-tipping when it occurs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Many of the pavement flags are cracked along the edge of the pavement on County Road, apparently due to vehicles parking with wheels up on the kerb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Chloe Jones, 34, has worked at Laser Schoolwear for five years. She said: \u201cI\u2019ve never seen traffic wardens in all the time I\u2019ve worked here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cI think this road is terrible: cars are parked on the pavement for ages. I\u2019ve seen people not be able to get on buses because there\u2019s cars parked in the bus stops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cWhen I open the shop there\u2019s always rubbish outside. Everyone gets picked up for the Everton game outside and there\u2019s always KFC wrappers and cans of lager left behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of the side streets off County Road have large communal bins taking up former parking spaces.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_IMG_4480JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Bin hubs have been placed on side streets off County Road. Dunluce Street pictured.(Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Katie Deaves, 27, said: \u201cOn the side roads, where the bins are, there used to be parking spaces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cFour car parking spaces have been taken away, and now it\u2019s difficult for us staff, and for our customers, to park. It\u2019s difficult for us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Florist Lynsey Meadows, 38, owns Flowers by Lynsey Meadows close to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/county-road-pubs-heart-customer-28650725\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The County pubLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The County pub<\/a>. She said: \u201cThere\u2019s nowhere to park on the streets. It\u2019s difficult for customers. The bin hubs take up a lot of space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">She added that cars parking on double-yellow lines contributes to frequent road rage outside the shop, adding \u201cThere\u2019s always people beeping outside the shop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Sushma Raj, 44, runs County Road Post Office. She received a parking ticket while loading outside the business last month, and expressed her frustration that she was ticketed while so many go unpunished for flouting the rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">She said: \u201cPeople block my business all the time. There\u2019s no space for taxi drivers to pull up outside, and lots of my customers are old or disabled, so they need to be dropped off outside.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">James Williams, 56, former barman at JT\u2019s bar, said \u201cWe see a lot of buses getting stuck down here because of the parking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cIt\u2019s a nightmare. My disabled dad can\u2019t pull up outside my house,\u201d said James, who lives on nearby Lind Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Want to have your say on your area? He said: \u201cPeople are moving further into the city centre to drink on matchday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Kate Moore works at Mike\u2019s Kitchen on County Road. Just look at all the empty shops, and the pubs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cUnless you come down for something specifically, why would you come to County Road? Everyone looks unhappy and malnourished.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cWe need an <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/asda\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Asda<\/a> and some more accessible shops for the old people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Fatih Kahraman, 41, also of Mike\u2019s Kitchen, said: \u201cSomething has to be done. Too many businesses are closing. A lot of businesses closed when the football went, and it\u2019s like a domino effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Jade O\u2019Leary, 36, works at Uniqcorn Crystals at the corner of Newark Street. She said: \u201cThe bins on the main road are always chocka. The takeaways are using residential bins and rats are so bad that they\u2019re getting into cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Ali Ahmed, 32, of County Pet Shop, said: \u201cPeople park in our loading bay every day. We miss deliveries because the van can\u2019t get in, and sometimes it has to park at the front.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Shop owner Adam Patel, 60, said: \u201cA lot of people do park on the pavements, but there\u2019s nothing we can do about it.<\/p>\n<p>What does the council say?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">A Liverpool City Council spokesperson said: \u201cCars are not permitted to park on double yellow lines or in bus stops at any time. Additionally, vehicles without a permit should not be parking in bays or on the road in residents\u2019 only parking zones during the hours of operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cWe have enforcement officers operating across the whole city, and any vehicle found to be breaching these rules may be issued a parking fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cAdditionally, our cleansing teams regularly clean each street across Liverpool and will remove fly-tipping when it occurs.
