Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, the Princess of Wales, 43, did not make it to the funeral, as it\u2019s reportedly not customary for a British royal\u2019s other half to be required to attend.<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, then-Prince Charles went to Pope John Paul II\u2019s funeral solo \u2014 even though he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/charles-and-camilla-delay-wedding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set to wed Camilla Parker Bowles <\/a>the day after the service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.townandcountrymag.com\/society\/tradition\/a64590344\/pope-francis-funeral-kate-middleton-prince-william\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Town and Country<\/a>, Middleton \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/09\/09\/royal-family\/kate-middleton-has-finished-her-cancer-treatment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">completed her cancer treatment <\/a>just last September \u2014 continues to be cautious about which public events she goes to.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/article\/prince-william-kate-middleton-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mom of three<\/a> is reportedly expected to make her first public appearance in five weeks this upcoming Wednesday, for a two-day visit to the Scottish Isles.<\/p>\n<p>Other world leaders\u2019 spouses, including Melania Trump, were present for the occasion. Alistair Grant-AP\/POOL supplied by Splash News \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>William, meanwhile, was at Francis\u2019 memorial, as he had to attend on behalf of his father, King Charles III, and the rest of the British royal family.<\/p>\n<p>Charles, 76, missed the ceremony in accordance with Buckingham Palace\u2019s protocol and precedence, which mandates that the reigning monarch not attend funerals.<\/p>\n<p>Francis <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/04\/21\/celebrity-news\/pope-francis-first-latin-american-pontiff-dead-at-88-after-pneumonia-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died Monday<\/a> at age 88 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/21\/world-news\/pope-francis-cause-of-death-revealed-by-the-vatican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as a result of a stroke<\/a>.
