Two people have been charged with assault after a man was found in a critical condition on a street in Manchester city centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police were called to Back Piccadilly, near Spear Street, at around 5.45pm on Thursday evening (November 6).<\/p>\n

A cordon was put in place after a man was found on the scene with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

He remains in hospital in a critical condition, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police<\/a> said today (Saturday).<\/p>\n

A man and a woman have since been charged with assault in connection with the incident.<\/p>\n

Simon Starrs, 37, of no fixed abode, and Lucy Sheriff, 34, also of no fixed abode, have both been charged with one count of assault.<\/p>\n

The pair are due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court this morning.<\/p>\n

Another woman who was arrested for assault has been bailed with conditions, a GMP spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson added: “Our dedicated Piccadilly Gardens<\/a> policing neighbourhood team will be patrolling the area to provide reassurance and visibility to our communities.<\/p>\n
