Traffic was halted on a stretch of the M60 tonight (Saturday) after a van was engulfed by flames.<\/p>\n

The white van caught fire on the anticlockwise stretch of the motorway near junction 23 for Ashton<\/a> and Audenshaw.<\/p>\n

Pictures and video showed bright orange flames lapping up from the front portion of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Smoke could be seen billowing into the air as traffic initially passed the scene.<\/p>\n

The emergency services were alerted and police temporarily halted traffic in the area whilst firefighters tackled the blaze.<\/p>\n

Crews were at the scene for around an hour.<\/p>\n

The van ablaze<\/p>\n

No one was hurt in the incident, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed. The van was not an electric vehicle, they added.<\/p>\n

A GMFRS spokesperson said: \u201cShortly after 7.15pm on Saturday (8 November), three fire engines from Blackley<\/a>, Whitehall and Hyde<\/a> fire stations were called to attend a van fire on the M60<\/a> between junctions 22 and 23.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrews arrived quickly and used breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirefighters made the area safe before departing after approximately one hour at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n
