A young man who died in an road accident in Co Londonderry has been named by police.<\/p>\n

Jamie Mitchell passed away in the early hours of this morning after a road traffic collision. <\/p>\n

The accident happened on the Dunhill Road of the Coleraine area.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead a the scene. <\/p>\n

Chief Inspector Celeste Simpson from the Collision Investigation Unit said: \u201cPolice received a report shortly after 1.20am of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in the Dunhill Road area.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers along with colleagues from other emergency services attended, however, the pedestrian, a man aged in his 20s, sadly died at the scene.<\/p>\n

“The Dunhill Road was closed for some time but has since reopened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.<\/p>\n

It is the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian in the last week.<\/p>\n

On Thursday John Shaw passed away after an incident involving a car near Magherafelt.<\/p>\n

The accident happened shortly after 5.50pm in the Grange Road area.<\/p>\n
