The senior women of the Royal Family; Queen Camilla, The Princess of Wales<\/a> and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh<\/a> were on the balconies overlooking the Cenotaph today (9 November), for an emotional Remembrance Sunday parade. Following the traditional two minute silence to reflect on those who have given their lives in military service, Sophie could be seen wiping away a tear. <\/p>\n

The Queen and The Princess of Wales stood on one balcony, just along from Sophie on another, who looked visibly emotional during the solemn time for reflection. The Duchess was accompanied by the Duke of Kent on the balcony, and pinned to her black dress was not one but three poppies. The Queen also wore a trio of poppies, as has Kate in previous years. It is thought that the three flowers are to represent the three main branches of the military; Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and the British Army.<\/p>\n

The King led the service on the ground before the Cenotaph, surrounded by the various military factions. Prince William joined his father in full RAF uniform to lay a wreath, as did Sophie’s husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is The King’s brother. <\/p>\n

However, there was one notable absence from The Royal Family line up this year – Princess Anne, who had a wreath laid on her behalf. This is because The Princess Royal is currently in Australia, where she has already attended a Remembrance service as Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. <\/p>\n

Politicians including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badonach were amongst those who lined up to present an official wreath of poppies in commemoration at the Cenotaph. Representatives of various faiths in the UK were also part of the day, which included hymns, a military march past of 10,000 service people and time for reflection. <\/p>\n

Last night (Saturday 8 November), Prince George made a surprise appearance alongside the Princess of Wales, King and Queen, and other members of the Royal Family. They were at the Royal Albert Hall for the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, and this year’s event was particularly poignant as it marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.<\/p>\n
