{"id":560058,"date":"2025-11-09T20:35:25","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T20:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/560058\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T20:35:25","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T20:35:25","slug":"scotland-international-mcewan-wins-memorial-match","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/560058\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland international McEwan wins memorial match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barry McEwan was buzzing after winning the Iain Reid Memorial Match over two days this weekend in Fife.<\/p>\n<p>The self-employed carpet fitter from Port Seton pocketed \u00a3500 after a tough weekend of fishing on beaches at Kirkcaldy and Leven.<\/p>\n<p>McEwan, a Scotland international, who recently competed in the world shore angling championships in Portugal, beat 57 other anglers, including several Scotland team-mates to take the award.<\/p>\n<p>He is a regular angler in the Bass Rock Shore Angling Club\u2019s winter and summer league matches and McEwan won Zone Three on Kirkcaldy beach on Day One with six fish for 172cms.<\/p>\n<p>He edged Colin Bell who had four fish for 114cm and Steve Potts from Tyneside who landed three fish for 97cm. <\/p>\n<p>Second was Falkirk-based Ian Campbell, also a Scotland international and retail manager of the Edinburgh Angling Centre. He had two fish for 54cm at Kirkcaldy but came good on Day Two and took home \u00a3300.<\/p>\n<p>Third was Kirkcaldy-based angler Chris Horn, also a Scotland angler, who won \u00a3200 after hooking into four fish on the first day for 127cm and having a second second session.<\/p>\n<p>The longest flat fish landed during the popular annual event was a 37cm flounder. Andy Padsfield was the angler and it was landed at Kirkcaldy.<\/p>\n<p>The junior winner was George Fraser who beat a number of senior anglers during the event over four hours each day.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Horn, one of the organisers, said it had been a hard weekend of fishing.
