Robinson is one of football’s fiercest rushers, a juke artist who sources his drop step from Allen Iverson. He’s increased his yards per carry mark in each of his three pro seasons, from 4.6 to 4.8 to 5.0 this year. He’s also more than doubled his receiving averages (up to almost 58 yards per game in 2025). Robinson owns the league’s longest run so far, this 81-yard house call on the Buffalo Bills:

A touchdown so nice we had to give it to you twice

💨 @Bijan5Robinson

ESPN | NFL+ pic.twitter.com/naR8AG3Xtb

— Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) October 14, 2025

London is a game-breaking wideout at 6-foot-4. He has tallied at least eight catches, 110 yards and one touchdown in three of his last four starts (he missed Week 8 with a hip injury). His high-volume connection with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. should continue down the stretch. On the other side, first-round rookie Jalon Walker is coming on strong. He had a pair of sacks against the New England Patriots last Sunday. As a team, the Falcons come in with a plus-4 turnover margin.

Now, the bummers. Atlanta seems to freeze up when it counts. Third-down conversions: 23rd on offense, 27th on defense. Fourth downs: 28th on offense, 24th on defense. And red zone rate: 22nd on offense, 30th on defense. Raheem Morris and his staff need to get that right, and right away, or ATL will be nothing more than a fantasy football vessel by December.

Falcons’ all-time record in international games: 2-2 (3 in London, 1 in Toronto)

The 7-2 Colts

Against even the wildest of dreams, Indy has been off-the-rails awesome through nine weeks. Shane Steichen’s offense tops the NFL at 32.2 points per game. Taylor leads the league in rushing and touchdowns. Daniel Jones (!) has the passing offense at No. 3 in net yards per dropback. With a dominant offensive line, deep pass rush and playmaking secondary, the Colts are built for a playoff storming.

Sensing the hype, riverboat GM Chris Ballard swung a deal for Gardner, the 25-year-old cornerback with two All-Pro credits and a long-term contract. Gardner has been a full participant in Colts practices since Tuesday’s trade and is expected to play Sunday.

In short, the Colts are giving this dude a lot of material:

What we’d give for a Kraftwerk-styled trance remix.

A few cracks are forming at their edges, though. Franchise cornerstone and second-leading sacker DeForest Buckner hit injured reserve on Friday. And Jones’ offense is coming off six giveaways in a sloppy loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. A second straight L would stomp out some of the momentum heading into their bye week.

Colts’ all-time record in international games: 1-1 (1 in Frankfurt, 1 in London)

The broadcast situation

All of the NFL’s European games are shown live on NFL Network for U.S. audiences. There’s an over-the-air simulcast in the teams’ respective regions, which means this matchup has local listings for Atlanta and Indianapolis. Rich Eisen is usually on play-by-play for these games, but Adam Amin of Fox Sports gets the nod Sunday. Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner takes color commentary. Stacey Dales and Kristina Pink report from the sidelines.

Gridiron football’s history in Germany

American football is massively popular in Germany today, and its presence dates back to after World War II, when American soldiers played on military bases throughout the country. The first Germany team, the Frankfurter Löwen (Frankfurt Lions), came along in 1977. By ’79, there were enough independent clubs to form a semipro league. The Berliner Bären (Berlin Bears) were a founding member of that group, which has since rebranded itself as the German Football League. Berlin’s present-day team is called the Rebels. They made the playoffs this season, but lost 44-31 in overtime to the Munich Cowboys.

Berlin hosted its first NFL exhibition in 1990 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Rams, nine months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Regular-season action didn’t land in Germany until 2022, though — Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers (still weird to say that) outlasted Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks in Munich. It was followed by a pair of Frankfurt games in 2023 (including a Colts win over the Patriots), before a singular return to Munich in 2024. That makes Sunday the first official regular-season game in Berlin.

What are the teams doing over there?

Josh Kendall, The Athletic’s Falcons beat writer, says Morris has his players studying the legacy of Jesse Owens. The Black track and field star won four gold medals at Sunday’s venue during the Nazi Party’s 1936 Olympic sportswashing. According to Kendall, the team has a lot of personal connections to Germany — offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford played for the Rhein Fire and coached the Frankfurt Galaxy, while guard Kyle Hinton spent his first two high school seasons in Bavaria. The Falcons also have a rally and “Dirty Bird Fan Walk” on Sunday morning.

The Colts have a global ambassador who proudly reps German culture. Defensive end and Berlin native Björn Werner was the franchise’s first-round pick in the 2013 draft. Though he only stuck on the roster for three seasons, Werner has since spread the blue-shoe gospel to his fellow countrymen. Here he is with fellow alumni Edgerrin James and Dallas Clark … plus Blue, the Colts’ belly-jiggling jester and our No. 1 telegenic mascot:

Who is expected to win on Sunday?

The Colts are favored by a touchdown at a neutral site. They hit Sunday’s kickoff with a better offense, a better defense and a much better record. International games can get wonky, and the Falcons did upset the Bills in prime time last month, but an Atlanta win would be a notable upset no matter what.

2025 NFL International Games

All upcoming games start at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Week 1 (Friday, Sept. 5): Los Angeles Chargers 27, Kansas City Chiefs 21
Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil

Week 4 (Sunday, Sept. 28): Pittsburgh Steelers 24, Minnesota Vikings 21
Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland

Week 5 (Sunday, Oct. 5): Minnesota Vikings 21, Cleveland Browns 17
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England

Week 6 (Sunday, Oct. 12): Denver Broncos 13, New York Jets 11
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England

Week 7 (Sunday, Oct. 19): Los Angeles Rams 35, Jacksonville Jaguars 7
Wembley Stadium in London, England

Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 9): Atlanta Falcons vs. Indianapolis Colts
Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany

Week 11 (Sunday, Nov. 16): Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins
Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain

Streaming and ticketing links in this article are provided by partners of The Athletic.
