{"id":56019,"date":"2025-04-27T23:49:22","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T23:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/56019\/"},"modified":"2025-04-27T23:49:22","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T23:49:22","slug":"sheffield-gets-its-first-dedicated-comedy-venue-other-news-2024-chortle-the-uk-comedy-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/56019\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield gets its first dedicated comedy venue : Other news 2024 : Chortle : The UK Comedy Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"caption\">Intimate club aims to offer gigs six nights a week<\/p>\n<p>Sheffield has got its first full-time comedy venue.<\/p>\n<p>The intimate Steel City Comedy Club \u2013 which seats just 38 people \u2013 has just opened, with the aim of offering comedy six nights a week.<\/p>\n<p>It is beneath the new the newly opened city centre cocktail bar The Beaten Track, near to the Cathedral, and is the brainchild of Paul Wrench, landlord of the nearby Three Tuns pub.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u2018I\u2019ve been involved in the local comedy scene for a number of years and more recently I\u2019ve had the opportunity to develop new comedy nights and ideas at the Three Tuns\u2019 \u2013\u00a0but he added: \u2018There was a need to have a dedicated space\u2026\u00a0 a space where comedy can truly thrive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We hope it\u2019ll become a key step on the ladder for newer local comics as well as a great spot for established acts looking for the perfect work in progress room.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Vix\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/vl-vix-leyton-ed22.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Comedian Vix Leyton, above. who moved to Sheffield last year, said:\u00a0\u2018Paul has a great vision for Steel City to support an already vibrant circuit. There is a lot to be excited about in Sheffield at the moment in terms of talent coming up the ranks, and stage time is essential to creating future stars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Having a dedicated space where audiences can find comedy on a weekly basis will hopefully tempt more people to give stand up outside of the big arenas a try and hopefully that will then extend into the open mic circuit. Comedy is a great value night out.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The venue, which has a proper sound and lighting rig and recording capabilities, will start by offering comedy three or four nights a week.
