PS Portal<\/strong><\/a> is a purpose-built Remote Play device, so it\u2019s no surprise to see it become the most popular platform for the feature. But it does speak to the overall success of the accessory, which is now owned by approximately 5% of all PS5 owners<\/a> in USA.<\/p>\n

Sony recently upgraded the capabilities of the wildly popular handheld<\/a>, allowing PS Plus Premium<\/strong><\/a> members to stream games directly to it via the cloud.<\/p>\n

This removes the need for a PS5 at all, meaning you can play over 2,800 games<\/a> on the device.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Tech Radar<\/a>, Senior Manager of Product Development Takuro Fushimi revealed some interesting tidbits about the unit:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur data shows that PS Portal users are more engaged than non-users. [The] PS Portal has now become the most widely used device for PS5 Remote Play, surpassing mobile PC, PS5, and PS4.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

None of this is hugely surprising given the bespoke nature of the PS Portal \u2013 if you bought it, you probably did so for Remote Play \u2013 but as we alluded to above, it demonstrates how penetrative the peripheral has proven overall.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s really fascinating is to look back at our polls prior to the accessory\u2019s release.<\/p>\n

Back in 2023<\/a>, 60% of the almost 6,000 people we quizzed said they had no plans to purchase the device at all, with 33% of that total saying they had \u201czero interest\u201d in it.<\/p>\n

But last week in a fresh poll<\/a> those numbers had flipped: about 51% of our users said they now owned the handheld, with 32% admitting they turn it on at least once per week.<\/p>\n
