{"id":561077,"date":"2025-11-10T09:04:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T09:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/561077\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T09:04:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T09:04:13","slug":"university-of-birmingham-students-head-to-cop30-in-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/561077\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Birmingham students head to COP30 in Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Thousands of people will travel to Brazil for the global climate conference, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c04gqez4lkyo\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">COP30<\/b><\/a><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">, on Monday &#8211; and among them are two students from the University of Birmingham.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Heads of state, diplomats, activists, and delegations from 200 countries will attend the event in Bel\u00e9m, in the Amazon rainforest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The annual United Nations meeting takes place 10 years after the Paris climate agreement, in which countries pledged to try to restrict the rise in global temperatures to 1.5C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Benika Lal, a geography student at the university, said: &#8220;The focus [at COP30] is on youth voices and how we can contribute to our own future.
