A key route in Cardiff<\/a> has been blocked after a large sinkhole appeared in the road. Maes-Y-Coed road in the Heath area of the city is closed in both directions after a sinkhole opened up on Sunday morning, November 9.<\/p>\n South Wales Fire and Rescue Service put a cordon in place shortly after emergency services were alerted to the hole. Maes-Y-Coed road is closed from Ton Yr Ywen Primary School<\/a> to just before Jubilee Gardens. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports that the road closure is causing severe delays on the A469 Caerphilly Road Southbound around Maes-Y-Coed Road and Ty-Wern Road.<\/p>\n This is the second sinkhole to appear along this stretch of road within recent months. In August, a sinkhole appeared slightly further down the road. It closed the road between the A469 Caerphilly<\/a> Road and Armoury Drive.<\/p>\n The emergence of yet another sinkhole has sparked some concern amongst local residents, who have taken to Facebook<\/a> to say there are “major problems” on this road.<\/p>\n Kevin Sprudd said: “I use this road a lot and I\u2019m no engineer but you can plainly see there are major problems here all the way from Tesco to Lidl. Wouldn\u2019t be surprised to see a car disappear.”<\/p>\n Andrew Mills added: “There are probably several ready to break open. The houses on Heol Dewi Sant must be wondering if they are near their homes.
