{"id":5612,"date":"2025-04-09T10:28:16","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T10:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/5612\/"},"modified":"2025-04-09T10:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T10:28:16","slug":"taylor-swift-lands-the-biggest-selling-new-vinyl-release-of-the-decade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/5612\/","title":{"rendered":"Taylor Swift lands the biggest-selling new vinyl release of the decade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/taylor-swift\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Swift<\/a> has three albums amongst the top four best-selling vinyl albums of the last decade, with her 2022 project \u2018Midnights\u2019 topping the list.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/tag\/record-store-day\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Record Store Day 2025, taking place on April 12, <\/a>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officialcharts.com\/chart-news\/10-years-of-the-official-vinyl-charts-a-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Official Charts<\/a> Company released data on the best-selling vinyl albums from the last decade. Last year 6.7million vinyl albums were sold, marking an almost a five-fold increase from 1994.<\/p>\n<p>Swift\u2019s album \u2018Midnights\u2019 heads the vinyl charts with 129,000 sales, with her 2024 and 2023 offerings \u2018The Tortured Poet\u2019s Department\u2019 and \u20181989 (Taylor\u2019s Version), respectively, also in the running in the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the list were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/harry-styles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harry Styles<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ed-sheeran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Sheeran<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/billie-eilish\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Eilish<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/david-bowie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Bowie<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nme-next.netlify.app\/artists\/tame-impala\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tame Impala<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3751986\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Vinyl@2000x1270-1.jpg\" alt=\"Browsing vinyl LPs in record store - stock photo\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1270\"  \/>Browsing vinyl LPs in record store \u2013 stock photo. Recently revealed statistics from ERA show that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicweek.com\/labels\/read\/five-key-findings-from-era-s-annual-numbers-on-the-recorded-music-retail-market\/091522\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">catalogue is still the main driver of vinyl sales<\/a>, despite the impact of contemporary pop acts with new releases.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/record-store-day-2025-date-confirmed-3827260\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025 marks the 18th edition of Record Store Day<\/a>\u00a0and it will feature over 270 independent record shops around the country, as well as thousands more globally. As is the standard, there will also be a series of in-store parties and a celebration of independent record store culture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/record-store-day-2024-full-list-releases-vinyl-3588062\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Last year\u2019s edition of Record Store Day was held on April 20<\/a>\u00a0and saw releases from The 1975,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/david-bowie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Bowie<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/daft-punk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daft Punk<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/talking-heads\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Talking Heads<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/talking-heADS\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramore<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/blur\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blur<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/lily-allen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lily Allen<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/gorillaz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gorillaz<\/a>, Elton John, Paramore and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/noel-gallaghers-high-flying-birds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Noel Gallagher\u2019s High Flying Birds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In other 2025 Record Store Day-related news, a select group of the UK\u2019s vinyl shops are set to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/go-behind-the-counter-of-uks-best-vinyl-shops-in-new-youtube-series-celebrating-record-store-day-2025-3833783\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">profiled in a new YouTube series<\/a>. Titled\u00a0Behind The Counter, the 12-part series is premiering every Tuesday leading up to Record Store Day itself \u2013 and each episode will showcase the vibrant culture surrounding a different independent record shop.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Key Production Group has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/new-recycling-scheme-for-unplayable-vinyl-and-cd-launched-with-rough-trade-and-other-uk-stores-on-board-3847196\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rolled out a recycling scheme for unplayable vinyl<\/a> and CDs backed by UK indie record shops.
