The Blades have owners who can spend their way out of trouble, with a manager with a track record of Championship success and quality in every position. In the mercurial Gus Hamer, they also possess a bona fide match winner who, on his day, is the most creative player in the division. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt present, no side in the Championship looks less like the sum of their parts, but those parts are formidable nonetheless. There is simply no way a team that good can stay this bad \u2013 it is only a matter of time before the Blades stop turning a square.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/sheffield-united\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a> endure tough start to Championship season<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/sheffield-united\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a> reached the play-off final in the last campaign but were beaten 2-1 by <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/sunderland\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sunderland<\/a> at Wembley and missed out on an immediate promotion to the Premier League. SUFC then made the surprise decision to sack Wilder. <\/p>\n<p>Former <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/southampton\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Southampton<\/a>, <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/reading\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Reading<\/a> and <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/hull-city\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hull City<\/a> man <a href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/2025\/10\/20\/sheffield-united-ruben-selles-real-zaragoza-appointment\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ruben Selles<\/a> was appointed as the head coach in the summer. However, the ex-<a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/middlesbrough\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Middlesbrough<\/a> and <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/watford\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Watford<\/a> head coach hasn\u2019t quite managed to get his team going yet and their results have been inconsistent. <\/p>\n<p>The 58-year-old will be hoping to get the best out of his players after the international break. SUFC could do with injecting some more quality into their squad this winter to give them the best chance of clawing themselves out of trouble. <\/p>\n<p>Their recruitment over the summer appeared to be rushed and they need to be more careful with their signings next time around. The likes of Tyler Bindon and Louie Barry haven\u2019t been able to make the impacts they would have wanted to. <\/p>\n<p>Wilder\u2019s men were left frustrated against <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/queens-park-rangers\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">QPR<\/a> last time out and weren\u2019t able to break down the Hoops. They must find a way to be more ruthless in front of goal and need the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/2025\/08\/26\/sheffield-united-tom-cannon-losses-opinion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Cannon<\/a> and Danny Ings to get firing. <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/sheffield-united\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a> are back in action on Sunday 23rd November with a clash against <a class=\"lar-automated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/the72.co.uk\/category\/sheffield-wednesday\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> as they look to return to winning ways. Their upcoming opponents are bottom the division under Henrik Pedersen.
