He plucks up the courage to enter the freak show (as a strangely familiar young\u00a0clown watches on from a distance), and is horrified by an emaciated man he encounters inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Later, he meets a young\u00a0Native American girl with whom he spends the summer. They wander into a forest, though she tries to stop him from going any further. Why? Well, the forest is where &#8220;It&#8221; hunts, and taking on the form of that\u00a0emaciated man, the creature chases the boy, becoming more and more monstrous until he reaches the edge of the wood and can come no further.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During their escape, the boy used his\u00a0catapult to hit the entity\u00a0we know better as Pennywise the Clown. Later, it&#8217;s revealed that these flashbacks were following\u00a0a young\u00a0General Francis Shaw, who is determined to\u00a0capture\u00a0the entity that&#8217;s been tormenting the town every 27 years.<\/p>\n<p>As for the girl, she&#8217;s Rose, the\u00a0woman who now owns Derry&#8217;s\u00a0pawn shop, and Shaw, having regained his memories of his encounter with &#8220;It&#8221; since returning to the town, gives Dick Hallorann\u2014a younger version of the same character\u00a0from The Shining\u2014the catapult so he can track the entity&#8217;s location.<\/p>\n<p>However, in doing so, Hallorann\u00a0catches a terrifying glimpse of the monster within his mind&#8230;and Pennywise sees him, too.\u00a0It: Welcome to Derry&#8217;s kids, meanwhile, manage to capture a blurry shot of Pennywise on camera after a terrifying\u00a0chase through a graveyard.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/uk\/a69302437\/chris-chalk-dick-hallorann-it-welcome-to-derry-episode-3-interview\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Esquire<\/a>, Chris Chalk, who plays\u00a0Hallorann in the series, explained what we can expect to see from the man tasked with using his psychic abilities to help the military find and capture Pennywise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;We go into the lore of why Dick is who he is and why he is this version of himself now versus the more master of his skills,&#8221; <\/strong>the actor teased. <strong>&#8220;In The Shining, he\u2019s like: &#8216;I know how to control this. I can teach someone how to use it.&#8217; But he\u2019s a student now, and he\u2019s a student who\u2019s been avoiding the assignment since he was nine years old.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a trailer for next week&#8217;s episode of It: Welcome to Derry, which promises to finally reveal more about Pennywise&#8217;s origin&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Set in the world of Stephen King&#8217;s\u00a0It\u00a0universe,\u00a0It: Welcome to Derry\u00a0is based on King&#8217;s\u00a0It\u00a0novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films\u00a0It\u00a0and\u00a0It\u00a0Chapter Two.<\/p>\n<p>The cast is led by Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd.<\/p>\n<p>The series, from Warner Bros. Television and developed for television by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (It,\u00a0The Flash) and Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), will debut on HBO and\u00a0also be available to stream on HBO Max.
