as police name suspect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A woman has died have being stabbed in the neck in an &#8220;unprovoked attack&#8221; in Birmingham, police have said.<\/p>\n<p>The 34-year-old was taken to hospital with a serious injury<a data-linked-post=\"2674277372\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/news\/birmingham-neck-stabbing-woman-cirtical-unprovoked-attack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> after the attack on Smallbrook Queensway,<\/a> close to the Bullring Shopping Centre, shortly before 9pm on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police confirmed she has since died in hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Djeison Rafael, 21, who was charged with attempted murder, is expected to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"68376\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"141a8e08332268ed3bf2611b16840563\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201550%20922'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/smallbrook-queensway-birmingham.png\" width=\"1550\" height=\"922\" alt=\"Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The woman was stabbed in the neck on Smallbrook Queensway in Birmingham on Friday evening <\/p>\n<p> | <\/p>\n<p>GOOGLE<\/p>\n<p>Police said an application will be made to amend the charges to reflect the victim\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>The force earlier said Rafael, a black British national, had also been charged with two further assaults and possession of a blade.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement this morning, West Midlands Police said: &#8220;Extra officers will be around Birmingham city centre to offer reassurance as we understand this is a worrying incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are still keen to hear from anyone who knows more about what happened or the movements of Rafael, who we believe was wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack on Friday evening (November 7).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"19e18\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"062007edee81818cc57d0ca6a588818b\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%206000%204000'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/a-stock-image-of-police-tape.jpg\" width=\"6000\" height=\"4000\" alt=\"A stock image of police tape\"\/><\/p>\n<p>West Midlands Police said it has stepped up the number of officers on patrol in Birmingham city centre following the stabbing (file photo) <\/p>\n<p> | GETTY<\/p>\n<p>Detective Inspector James Nix said it was believed to be an &#8220;unprovoked attack&#8221; and officers were working to &#8220;understand why it happened&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Following the stabbing, Birmingham-born Shabana Mahmood, who serves as MP for the Ladywood area of the city, said she was &#8220;shocked&#8221; to hear the news.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote to X: &#8220;My thoughts are with the victim, her family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thank the police for their swift action to arrest a suspect.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I urge any witnesses to contact West Midlands Police.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A woman has died have being stabbed in the neck in an &#8220;unprovoked attack&#8221;
