{"id":563057,"date":"2025-11-11T07:07:20","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T07:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/563057\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T07:07:20","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T07:07:20","slug":"five-things-you-need-to-know-today-68","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/563057\/","title":{"rendered":"Five things you need to know today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Armistice Day<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edinburgh Trams <\/strong>is set to commemorate Armistice Day on Tuesday to pay tribute to those who fell in World War I, World War II, and in conflicts in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>To remember the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, Edinburgh Trams will be offering free tram travel for veterans and serving members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force on both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. They will be able to take up this offer by simply showing their military ID or wearing their uniform on each day.<\/p>\n<p>Leading up to the day of remembrance and reflection, members from Poppy Scotland will be located at our Haymarket tram stop selling poppies, should you wish to purchase one. today<\/p>\n<p>The council is holding a drop in event at Fountainbridge Library on Tuesday for everyone to find out more about \u00a310 million plans to improve walking, wheeling and cycling in Dundee Street, Fountainbridge and onwards up to the Union Canal.<\/p>\n<p>The council say: \u201cThe proposals support our ambitious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburgh.gov.uk\/area-regeneration\/fountainbridge-regeneration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fountainbridge Regeneration Masterplan<\/a> which converts former Brewing and Distilling <\/p>\n<p>Gordon Macdonald MSP for Pentlands has raised the matter of the new centre for Sustainable Brewing and Distilling and this will be debated at The Scottish Parliament on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Business Motion states: \u201cThat the Parliament welcomes the commitment from Heriot-Watt University, in Edinburgh, on the economic importance of brewing and distilling in Scotland by seeking to raise \u00a335 million to build a new Centre for Sustainable Brewing and Distilling (CSBD); understands the centre will be a new state-of-the-art version of the current International Centre for Brewing and Distilling (ICBD), which it understands is a world leading educational establishment delivering undergraduate and graduate courses; notes that the CSBD will embrace the latest green technologies and sustainable practices, ensuring that the university continues to lead the world in securing a future for both industries; recognises what it sees as the legacy and impact of Heriot-Watt University on the industries of brewing and distilling for more than 120 years, establishing both industries as key economic drivers, and commends what it considers to be the first-class teaching, innovation and sustainable methods of working at the ICBD, which has contributed to the success of brewing and distilling not only in Scotland but across the continents of Europe, the Americas and Asia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishparliament.tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Watch online here from 2pm.
