Pedro S\u00e1nchez’s rapprochement with the Chinese communist dictatorship<\/a> is creating increasing strategic risks for Spain.<\/p>\n Spain, the paradox of approaching the largest dictatorship and warning against the ‘far-right’<\/a> On Sunday, the King and Queen of Spain began a visit to communist China<\/a>, in a double maneuver organized by Pedro S\u00e1nchez’s government to favor that dictatorship<\/strong> (a totalitarian one-party regime that has killed millions of people but receives praise from S\u00e1nchez and not a single criticism for its human rights violations) and also to discredit the Crown<\/strong>, especially in the eyes of its center-right supporters.<\/p>\n S\u00e1nchez has already made three official trips to communist China<\/strong>, in which he has never uttered even the slightest reproach for the genocide against the Uyghur people<\/a> and against the Tibetan people<\/a>, nor for the existence of the largest network of concentration camps in the world<\/strong> (the Laogai, the Chinese version of the Soviet Gulag), nor for the persecution against Christians and other religious groups. When it comes to discussing communist China and human rights, S\u00e1nchez falls silent.<\/strong><\/p>\n Of course, the communist dictatorship in Beijing is very pleased with S\u00e1nchez’s subservience to that anti-democratic regime<\/strong>, and the Communist Party of China (CPC) has made this clear through its propaganda channels. On Sunday, from Chengdu, in that Asian country, Lucas de la Cal, writing for the newspaper El Mundo, pointed out this text that appeared a few days ago in the CPC’s official newspaper<\/a>, the “People’s Daily”:<\/p>\n “One of the most surprising diplomatic moments of 2025 will undoubtedly be King Felipe VI of Spain’s visit to China. It is proof that, while most European countries continue to defer to the United States, Spain is openly aligning itself with China. This is a betrayal of its traditional alliances<\/strong>, but it is a bold and intelligent one. A great decision.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n It is a betrayal by S\u00e1nchez’s government that all Spaniards will ultimately pay for<\/strong>, due to the consequences of losing the trust of our greatest strategic ally, the United States, by moving closer to the world’s largest dictatorship. As if S\u00e1nchez hadn’t already tarnished his country’s name enough<\/strong>, yesterday the official newspaper of the CPC published an article referring to Spain as the “China of Europe”<\/a>, citing cultural and gastronomic reasons, and finally pointing out “the strategic orientation of the leaders of both countries<\/strong>“, commenting as follows:<\/p>\n “In 2018, both countries issued a joint declaration on strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era<\/strong>, promoting further development of bilateral relations and generating greater benefits for the people of both countries.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In 2018, S\u00e1nchez came to power.<\/strong> Thus, one of the first things he did was to reach out to communist China. The dictatorship adds: “China and Spain share similar ideals on many highly relevant international issues.<\/strong>” It is not Spain that shares these ideals: it is a minority government that remains in power after losing the last general election two years ago and despite no longer having the parliamentary majority that granted S\u00e1nchez reelection.<\/p>\n The reason for S\u00e1nchez’s rapprochement with the Beijing dictatorship is obvious: S\u00e1nchez is a socialist and governs with the communists of Sumar, which is why he’s cozying up to a communist regime. The ideological affinities are clear<\/strong>, as clear as his contempt for the West, for democracy, and for human rights. Let’s remember, in case anyone has forgotten, that communist China is the main ally of Vladimir Putin’s dictatorship<\/strong>, which has been massacring Ukrainian civilians for years in a war of aggression that seriously jeopardizes the peace and security of Europe. With this alliance, S\u00e1nchez is discrediting Spain<\/strong> and positioning it as the best friend of a regime that has governed China since 1949 without free elections and violating human rights.
