Jason Wilcox recently said that the transfer window work never stops, so they will be keeping a close eye on Angelo Stiller\u2019s latest Germany setback, which has forced a response from Julian Nagelsmann.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite spending more than \u00a3200m in the summer transfer window, the gaping hole in defensive midfield is clear to see. <\/p>\n

Casemiro is indispensable<\/a>, and that says as much about Man Utd\u2019s<\/a> options as it does about the player\u2019s resurgence, which is remarkable in itself. <\/p>\n

Angelo Stiller has been linked to Man Utd<\/a> for the role, and he has just been at the centre of some back-and-forth between club and country after a setback. <\/p>\n

Stiller\u2019s profile makes him the ideal target for Man Utd<\/a> because he combines ball-playing from deeper areas with the combativeness needed to succeed in English football. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s why he has also made five appearances for the German national team despite not playing for an \u201celite club\u201d, as he\u2019s Stuttgart\u2019s talisman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He has continued his imperious form this season as well, but he faced a setback recently when he missed out on a call-up to the national team. <\/p>\n

It was a surprise because Stuttgart are fourth in the league so far, a fact director Uli Hoeness didn\u2019t let people forget when addressing Stiller\u2019s omission.<\/p>\n

After his latest performances, do you want Casemiro to sign a one-year contract extension? <\/p>\n

He said (via Stuttgarter Nachrichten): \u201cI was surprised and didn\u2019t expect it. Angelo\u2019s importance to us couldn\u2019t be greater; he\u2019s our key player \u2013 and with fourth place in the Bundesliga, we\u2019re not doing too badly at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t expect the decision. But nevertheless, we\u2019re not questioning anything \u2013 what we can do is provide sporting answers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Julian Nagelsmann responds to Stiller snub<\/p>\n

Stiller hasn\u2019t done anything wrong, so questions over his omission were expected, and Nagelsmann was forced to respond. <\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIf they had said, \u2018It\u2019s deserved that Angelo isn\u2019t there, that idiot,\u2019 then I would have been worried. Their reaction was exactly right.<\/p>\n

\u201cAngelo\u2019s development is clearly moving in the right direction again. I also conveyed to him that he is performing much more consistently than in the four weeks before our last training camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cToo many defensive midfielders; the balance wasn\u2019t right. Now the structure is a bit different; every position is covered by two players. After some demanding weeks at VfB Stuttgart, Angelo now has a few days to catch his breath and then bring his improving form back onto the pitch. There will be another call-up in March \u2013 then we\u2019ll see. The door isn\u2019t closed for Angelo.\u201d<\/p>\n

From United\u2019s perspective, it\u2019s not too big a missed opportunity, because they wouldn\u2019t have learned much from seeing Stiller play against Luxembourg. <\/p>\n

Slovakia is the other fixture, but if the focus is on him continuing to play well for his club, then that\u2019s a trade United will be happy with. <\/p>\n
