Plans for 1,200 homes, centered around the redevelopment of the former police headquarters building \u2013 Chester House \u2013 in Stretford<\/a> have been unveiled.<\/p>\n

The ambitious scheme is a joint venture between Trafford<\/a> council, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Far East Consortium.<\/p>\n

It also includes a 250-bed hotel and green public spaces. Town hall bosses are now inviting the public to have their say on the plans, which include 25 per cent affordable housing.<\/p>\n

The site off Talbot Road, White City Way and Chester Road has been vacant since the relocation of the Greater Manchester Police<\/a> HQ.<\/p>\n

It already has easy access to the Trafford Bar tram stop \u2013 10 minutes from Manchester city centre<\/a> and with easy access to Salford<\/a>, Manchester Airport<\/a> and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

Planners are aiming to tap into Trafford\u2019s rich history with the borough\u2019s heritage \u2018at the heart of the development\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough thoughtful design and conservation, this project will pay tribute to the site\u2019s past while creating a legacy for generations to come,\u201d the consortium says on its website.<\/p>\n

This includes Ellis Llwys Jones Hall \u2013 once the home to women studying deaf education at Manchester University.<\/p>\n

Historic gateposts from the former blind school will be preserved in the new public realm.<\/p>\n
