Packages have gone uncollected and undelivered after ten branches across the region closed suddenly on Thursday (November 6).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/business\/ \" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Post Office Ltd<\/a> has now confirmed ten branches are \u201ctemporarily closed across Merseyside, including nine in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/ \" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool<\/a>&#8220;. Those branches are Childwall, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/formby\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Formby<\/a>, Hunts Cross, Monument Place, Penny Lane, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/toxteth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Toxteth<\/a>, Tuebrook, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/walton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Walton<\/a> Vale, Watts Lane and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/woolton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Woolton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Post Office Ltd said the branches are closed for \u201coperational reasons\u201d. Despite repeated requests from the ECHO, the publicly-owned firm is yet to explain what those operational reasons are. The ECHO has visited several of the affected branches since the closures, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/bewildered-people-appalled-post-offices-32827034\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">often finding bewildered and frustrated customers outside<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Undelivered packages are trapped inside the shuttered Post Offices after the sudden closures last week. The Post Office said these parcels will \u201csoon be removed\u201d and that customers will be notified as to where they can collect the items.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">The Department for Business and Trade, the government department that oversees Post Office Ltd, has twice refused to comment, saying the issue was the remit of the Post Office as it fell under day-to-day operations.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1762873454_955_0_IMG_4489JPG.jpg\" alt=\"Queues for the cashpoint at the shuttered Watts Lane Post Office, Bootle.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Queues for the cashpoint at the shuttered Watts Lane Post Office, Bootle.(Image: Liverpool ECHO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Some of the affected branches are the only places offering financial facilities after high street banks closed in recent years. Lucy Antal, 57, who works for Foodrise, said of Woolton post Office: \u201cThis is going to have a big impact. The Post Office is always busy. You go there at any time and there\u2019s always a queue of people getting their pensions, or paying their bills, or putting money into their bank accounts. It\u2019s really popular.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cThis closure leaves the whole village with no way to do banking \u2014 or to post things, for that matter. It\u2019s crucial.\u201c<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">Martin Prince, 66, has seen his local Post Office close. He said: \u201cFor those people who want cash or to process transactions, it means a huge inconvenience in having to travel to either<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/southport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Southport<\/a> or<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/crosby\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Crosby<\/a>, and for some elderly people that will be impossible because they haven\u2019t got the transport to be able to do that.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/0_IMG_0982jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Rina Miles, 79, was hoping to post a parcel at Childwall Post Office on Dunbabin Road, but found it shut after its sudden closure last week. \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Rina Miles, 79, was hoping to post a parcel at Childwall Post Office on Dunbabin Road, but found it shut after its sudden closure last week. (Image: Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">\u201cI would think there are a lot of people worried about this locally, particularly older people who rely on the Post Office to withdraw their pension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"liverpoolecho\">A Post Office spokesperson said: \u201cThere are 10 Post Office branches in the Liverpool area that are currently closed for operational reasons. It is not known when these branches will re-open. We are working hard to restore service as soon as possible.
