{"id":563995,"date":"2025-11-11T17:20:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T17:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/563995\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T17:20:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T17:20:24","slug":"new-report-calls-for-comprehensive-overhaul-of-uk-counter-terrorism-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/563995\/","title":{"rendered":"New report calls for comprehensive overhaul of UK counter-terrorism policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-left:0px;text-align:left;\">The University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/research.manchester.ac.uk\/en\/persons\/hilary.pilkington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Hilary Pilkington<\/a> is among 14 experts who compiled the <a href=\"https:\/\/binghamcentre.biicl.org\/independent-commission-on-counter-terrorism-law-policy--and-practice-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">final report<\/a> of the Independent Commission on Counter-Terrorism Law, Policy and Practice, which was published today by the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0px;text-align:left;\">The report is based on extensive research and evidence from over 200 experts, practitioners, policymakers, academics and community representatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0px;text-align:left;\">Professor Pilkington\u2019s remit was to scrutinise the evidence around the Government\u2019s Prevent programme &#8211; which aims to identify and rehabilitate people at risk of radicalisation &#8211; drawing on her research expertise in youth engagement and the societal drivers of extremism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0px;text-align:left;\">Referrals to Prevent increased markedly after 2015, when it became a legal duty for teachers, social workers, nurses and other frontline professionals to report people they believed to be at risk of being drawn into terrorism or extremism.
