{"id":564092,"date":"2025-11-11T18:23:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T18:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/564092\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T18:23:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T18:23:21","slug":"west-midlands-bus-network-funding-scheme-set-to-be-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/564092\/","title":{"rendered":"West Midlands bus network funding scheme set to be extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Without the funding, the bus network in the region would risk &#8220;significant service reductions&#8221;, which the report said could cause &#8220;serious social and economic suffering&#8221; for residents and businesses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It also raised fears the lack of funding could create an &#8220;unstable network&#8221; while the authority tries to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cjevlyx1ne8o\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deliver a franchised bus network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The report said: &#8220;Whilst TfWM subsidises around 12 per cent of the network through tendered contracts, a further significant portion (around 30 per cent) of the network is at risk and fares face steeper increases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Continued grants also helps to mitigate any significant commercial increase in fares by bus operators as we transition from a de-regulated system to a franchised system.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The WMCA board will meet on Friday.
