West Midlands Police issued a fresh statement as officers probe the death of Katie Fox, 34, in city centre stabbing<\/p>\n

Police have issued a statement following the horrific death of a woman fatally stabbed as she waited at a Birmingham<\/a> city centre bus stop.<\/p>\n

Katie Fox was named<\/a> as the victim of what police described as an \u2018unprovoked\u2019 knife attack in Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm on Friday, November 7.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old suffered a serious neck injury and was taken to hospital but later died.<\/p>\n

Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 10, charged with murder.<\/p>\n

Tributes were left to Ms Fox online, with Melanie Cox saying the news was \u2018absolutely devastating\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Floral tributes also appeared at the scene, along with a political banner saying \u2018When is this Government going to stop this?\u2019<\/p>\n

Shoppers in the city centre on Saturday, the day after the knife incident, and before Ms Fox\u2019s death had been confirmed, said the incident was \u2018really, really disturbing\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

BirminghamLive asked West Midlands Police<\/a> how many officers were patrolling the city centre. We also asked for a follow-up interview with chief constable, Craig Guildford, who told our reporter last month \u2018we\u2019ve got a safe city\u2019.<\/p>\n

In response, a spokesman for the force said: \u201cWe know that, after the awful events of the weekend which saw a woman tragically lose her life after being stabbed in the city centre, people are understandably worried.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts remain with her family and they are being supported by our officers.<\/p>\n

\u201cA man has now been charged and remanded in custody.<\/p>\n
