A local councillor is demanding the immediate installation of average speed cameras on a major Birmingham route after a\u00a0“dramatic”\u00a0three-car collision on Saturday, November 8, saw a taxi overturn.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred on\u00a0Bordesley Green East\u00a0in Stechford shortly before 6 pm. West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to the scene, and\u00a0“two people were assessed at the scene for injuries.”<\/p>\n

Councillor Baber Baz, who represents Yardley West and Stechford, told\u00a0BirminghamLive\u00a0he is pushing for new safety measures to curb dangerous speeding on the road.<\/p>\n

“This was a crash with a taxi ending up on its roof. It was around half-a-mile from Heartlands Hospital,” Cllr Baz stated. He warned of the high speeds drivers regularly reach: “I have seen cars travelling at 70 or 80mph. It\u2019s a daily occurrence.”<\/p>\n

He believes that a fatality is a real risk due to the speeds drivers attain after passing traffic lights. “We need average speed cameras depending on which direction you\u2019re coming from. Drivers set off after the lights and people put their foot down,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Writing on his Facebook page, the councillor posted an image of the wreckage and added: “Another serious collision on Bordesley Green East. Yet again, another serious car crash involving multiple vehicles on Bordesley Green East.”<\/p>\n

He stressed the urgency of the matter: “The stretch from Aldi up to the lights by Stechford Police Station has become notorious for speeding. I and the Stechford Liberal Democrat team will be pushing for average speed cameras along this stretch before the next collision proves to be fatal.”<\/p>\n
