An investigation has been launched after reports of a ‘petrol bomb’ attack on a home in Wigan<\/a> on Tuesday morning (November 11).<\/p>\n

Police, fire crews and paramedics attended the scene on Stout Street in Leigh at around 8.30am to reports of a possible arson incident at a property.<\/p>\n

Residents reported hearing ‘a bang’ before parts of a nearby home were set alight. The area was taped off throughout the morning amid investigations.<\/p>\n

It’s understood the suspect used accelerants thrown towards the front of the property before the fire erupted. No injuries were reported in the incident.<\/p>\n

One Stout Street resident said: “I didn\u2019t see anything but I heard it. What are they thinking? With kids around especially. It\u2019s awful, just stupid. Anything could have happened, it could\u2019ve been ten times worse.”Another local added: “I was walking my children to nursery and just saw the police there. Loads of people making noise. No idea where it happened, my dad said he heard a bang.<\/p>\n

“Disgusting though, doing it in a residential area. It\u2019s bad enough when it\u2019s just adults around but kids as well. What if something had happened to them? I\u2019m honestly, sick of it. Disgusting.<\/p>\n

“All I know is loads of people were screaming about something this morning and some kids were crying.”<\/p>\n

Greater Manchester Police<\/a> confirmed an investigation has been launched and urged any witnesses to come forward. It is thought to have been a ‘targeted attack’.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said: “At around 8.30am this morning (Tuesday 11 November 2025), we were called to reports of a possible arson at a property on Stout Street in Leigh. Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.<\/p>\n

“Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Currently no arrests have been made but detectives are completing enquiries to identify the offender. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. Investigations are ongoing.”<\/p>\n
