{"id":565076,"date":"2025-11-12T05:16:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T05:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565076\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T05:16:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T05:16:19","slug":"birmingham-airport-appoints-arup-to-develop-masterplan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565076\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham Airport appoints Arup to develop masterplan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham Airport (BHX) has appointed global built environment consultancy Arup to develop its next masterplan, outlining the airport\u2019s growth and transformation strategy through to 2041.<\/p>\n<p>The plan will set out how the airport intends to accommodate future passenger and airline growth while prioritizing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.passengerterminaltoday.com\/news\/sustainability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sustainability<\/a>, operational efficiency and an improved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.passengerterminaltoday.com\/news\/passenger-experience\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passenger experience<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment follows Birmingham Airport\u2019s return to pre-pandemic passenger volumes and announcement of a \u00a3300m (US$395m), four-year infrastructure investment program. The masterplan aims to build on this investment and define how the airport can continue to support regional and national economic growth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ian-taylor-21028613\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ian Taylor<\/a>, development and construction direction at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghamairport.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham Airport<\/a>, said \u201cWe are delighted to have Arup on board, who are world-class at planning major infrastructure projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alan-newbold-7bb5243\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alan Newbold<\/a>, aviation business leader for UKIMEA and Europe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arup<\/a>, added, \u201cWell-planned, sustainable airport growth is a vital enabler of economic opportunity, connectivity and regional prosperity. Arup is excited to support Birmingham Airport\u2019s ambition to deliver this through its long-term masterplan, underpinned by a clear focus on sustainability, social value and stakeholder engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Work on the masterplan has already begun, with a draft expected to go out for public consultation in summer 2026. Local communities and stakeholders will be invited to provide feedback to help shape the airport\u2019s long-term development.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative comes during a year of record investment and passenger growth for Birmingham Airport, alongside changes in its ownership structure.
