{"id":565191,"date":"2025-11-12T06:38:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T06:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565191\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T06:38:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T06:38:24","slug":"my-daughter-died-alone-in-edinburgh-mcdonalds-toilet-and-was-found-six-hours-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565191\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;My daughter died alone in Edinburgh McDonald\u2019s toilet and was found six hours later&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A Scottish mum has said she will be \u201chaunted forever\u201d after her daughter\u2019s body lay undiscovered in the toilet of a McDonald\u2019s in Edinburgh for six hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Michaela Sharp was tragically found dead at the South St Andrew Street branch of the fast food restaurant in the early hours of June 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Her mother, Aurora Light, said police officers told her CCTV footage showed the 32-year-old entering the bathroom at about 9pm the previous evening, however the door was not opened until nearly 3am the following morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aurora, 52, from Bo\u2019ness, near Falkirk, said it was \u201cunthinkable\u201d her daughter was left to die alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Emergency crews were called to the scene, but sadly Michaela could not be saved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aurora said Michaela\u2019s cause of death was unclear, however she was known to have suffered from health issues including seizures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aurora said she had been staying with her mother when police arrived to deliver the news. She said her mum was left \u201csobbing on the doorstep\u201d when officers knocked on the door.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aurora said: \u201cAll I could hear was her sobbing and saying, \u2018it can\u2019t be true. Is she really gone?\u2019 I couldn\u2019t understand what had happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe police then told us Michaela had been found in a toilet in McDonald\u2019s at around 3am.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Michaela Sharp was tragically found dead at the South St Andrew Street branch\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"810\" height=\"539\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/84eab67d37001cb09065dd0f8ba3c5ce.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Michaela Sharp was tragically found dead at the South St Andrew Street branch<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWhen paramedics arrived, she was already dead and could have been for hours. They said the CCTV showed her going in at 9pm so she could have been laying there alone since then.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cShe has had seizures caused by health issues before where we had to call an ambulance but all we know is it was sudden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aurora believes Michaela could have been saved if staff had checked the toilets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She said: \u201cIf someone had just found her in the first half an hour and called an ambulance she might still be here today.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Michaela with her mum\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"810\" height=\"539\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/fd4c8922d3fc215f214f17656db3f27e.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Michaela with her mum<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIf only someone had checked, someone could have saved my little girl. It\u2019s the what if\u2019s that will haunt me forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cJust the thought of your child being left cold like that in the toilets for six hours is unthinkable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cKnowing the restaurant was open with people around breaks my heart. By the time the ambulance got there, there was nothing they could do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><b>Sign up for<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghlive.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=52589817-5145-4bda-812c-35c36c95fb08&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Edinburgh Live newsletters;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"> <b> Edinburgh Live newsletters <\/b> <\/a> <b>for more headlines straight to your inbox.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The South St Andrew Street branch is one of the busiest in Edinburgh and is particularly popular among revellers heading home from nights out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A spokesperson for the fast food restaurant offered its condolences and said it had assisted Police Scotland in its investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They added: \u201cWe offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends following this tragic event in June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOur restaurant team worked closely with Police Scotland to assist at the time of their investigation and will continue to support if required.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe have offered support to any of our restaurant team who have been affected.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A Police Scotland spokesperson said: \u201cAround 2.55am on Saturday, June 14, 2025, we were called to a report of a woman having taken unwell in the South St Andrew Street area of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cEmergency services attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
