{"id":565396,"date":"2025-11-12T09:49:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T09:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565396\/"},"modified":"2025-11-12T09:49:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T09:49:11","slug":"keir-starmers-health-secretary-furiously-denies-plot-to-oust-him-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/565396\/","title":{"rendered":"Keir Starmer\u2019s health secretary furiously denies plot to oust him \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Streeting, widely regarded as a future leadership contender and seen as one of the government\u2019s best communicators, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/nov\/11\/keir-starmer-allies-ousting-pm-would-be-reckless-fears-leadership-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported by the Guardian Tuesday evening<\/a> as having 50 members of the government frontbench ready to stand down if Chancellor Rachel Reeves\u2019 budget lands badly on Nov. 26.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s totally self-defeating briefing, not least because it\u2019s not true, and I don\u2019t understand how anyone thinks it\u2019s helpful to the prime minister,\u201d Streeting shot back on Sky News Wednesday, stressing briefings from unnamed allies \u201cdistract from our ability to get across the message of the change we\u2019re making.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Streeting, who had been due on the airwaves to promote a government health plan, said \u201ctrying to kneecap one of your own team when they are out\u201d making the case for the administration was \u201cself-defeating and self-destructive behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Questioned by LBC if he had ambitions to take the top job, Streeting said: \u201cNot if this is how people behave in your own house,\u201d adding \u201cthis is ridiculous and no, the prime minister is not fighting for his job this morning \u2026 I think this is daft to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Streeting said he was confident Starmer would lead Labour into the next election, due by 2029 \u2014 but admitted to the BBC: \u201cIt\u2019s bad enough when events knock you off course to get your message across.
