A charity worker is walking 1,000km across Spain to raise \u00a35,000 for vulnerable young people.<\/p>\n
Andy Evans, who is the food sourcing officer for the Didcot based charity South Oxfordshire Food and Education Alliance (SOFEA), started his journey on April 7, to fund a full education programme for a young person at the non-profit.<\/p>\n
SOFEA was founded in 2013 to support vulnerable people, many of whom face emotional and behavioural challenges.<\/p>\n
The charity also redistributes surplus food across the Thames Valley in partnership with FareShare.<\/p>\n
Mr Evans started the challenge in September 2024 but had to stop after fracturing two ribs.<\/p>\n
Now fully recovered, he will resume his journey in Villafranca Montes de Oca, finishing on the Atlantic coast in Finisterre.<\/p>\n
By the end of his journey, he will have climbed twice the height of Mount Everest.<\/p>\n

Mr Evans said: “The trip ahead prompts a range of moods and emotions within me.<\/p>\n
“After having been hospitalised on my last outing, I am feeling more anxious than I normally would about the terrain ahead, about where I’ll be able to find accommodation and about what the weather might have in wait for me.<\/p>\n
“However, the prospect of a big adventure really excites me too.<\/p>\n
“I’m itching to start.”<\/p>\n
