It\u2019s important to be aware that most of these payments will land in bank accounts automatically and nobody needs to claim them. If you receive any texts, emails or phonecalls telling you otherwise, it is probably a scam<\/a>. Neither the DWP nor Social Security Scotland will ask for personal or financial information by these methods.<\/p>\n Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment<\/a> has now replaced the Winter Fuel Payment for all Scots pensioners. Payments of \u00a3200 for those aged between 66 and 79, or \u00a3300 for those aged 80 and over, will be issued automatically from November 12 until mid-December to pensioners born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n Pensioners with an annual income of \u00a335,000 or more will not be eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment. Those above the threshold will need to pay the money back either through PAYE or a Self Assessment tax return.<\/p>\n At least 880,000 pensioners in Scotland will receive Pension Age Winter Heating Payments. The income threshold rules also apply north of the border. Payments will start landing in bank accounts at the end of November.<\/p>\n Financial help for pensioner households<\/p>\n Financial help on the way before March 31, 2026 includes:<\/p>\n Someone aged between 66 and 79, living in Scotland, could potentially receive \u00a3273.15 from the three cash payments before the end of March 2026. However, most of these will be issued before the end of this year.<\/p>\n This is made up of:<\/strong><\/p>\n Someone over 80, living in Scotland, could potentially receive \u00a3374.86 from the three cash payments before the end of March 2026. When you factor in the \u00a3150 Warm Home Discount help, paid directly to energy suppliers, this amounts to \u00a3524.86 in extra support.<\/p>\n This is made up of:<\/strong><\/p>\n Winter Heating Payment (\u00a359.75) – Scotland only<\/p>\n Payments will be issued in mid-December.<\/p>\n You may qualify for Winter Heating Payment automatically if you get one of these benefits:<\/strong><\/p>\n The qualifying week for this year\u2019s payment was November 3 – 9, 2025.<\/p>\n Pension Age Winter Heating Payment – between\u00a3203.40 – \u00a3305.10<\/p>\n Eligible people over State Pension age living in Scotland will automatically receive a one-off heating payment of up to \u00a3305.10 from the end of November.<\/p>\n To be eligible for the 2025 payment, you must have been born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n During the qualifying week – September 15-21 – you must also:<\/strong><\/p>\n Winter Fuel Payments – between \u00a3200 and \u00a3300 (not Scotland)<\/p>\n The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the 2025\/26 Winter Fuel Payment will be issued to everyone born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n Payments of \u00a3200 will be made automatically to those aged between 66 and 79, while those aged 80 or over will receive \u00a3300. Nobody needs to claim the payment.<\/p>\n Pensioners also need to have an annual income of under \u00a335,000 to qualify for the payment this winter.<\/p>\n Full details on how much people will receive from DWP – depending on their household age and living arrangements can be found on GOV.UK here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Warm Home Discount – \u00a3150 paid to energy provider<\/p>\n The Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2025\/26 is now open and will give people on certain benefits \u00a3150 off their electricity bill.<\/p>\n The money is paid directly by the DWP to energy suppliers between now and March. Eligible households may also be able to get the discount off their gas bill instead – if their supplier provides them with both gas and electricity, just contact them and ask.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re a credit customer the \u00a3150 will be added to your electricity account and if you\u2019re on Pay As You Go or Prepayment, you\u2019ll be sent a voucher that you can use to top-up your meter.<\/p>\n You can read more about the changes to eligibility on GOV.UK here.<\/a><\/p>\n DWP Christmas Bonus – \u00a310<\/p>\n The bonus is a one-off, tax-free \u00a310 payment made to people in receipt of State Pension or those claiming certain other benefits during the qualifying week – usually the first full week of December.<\/p>\n Nobody needs to apply for the extra \u00a310 as it should automatically go into the account where you usually receive your State Pension or benefit payment.
