Chris Wilder is simply asking for trouble as Sheffield United open talks with a free agent for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Blades have seriously struggled in the Championship so far this season, now sitting three points adrift of safety near the bottom of the table after 15 matches.<\/p>\n

Wilder had been sacked by Sheffield United<\/a>, but after an awful few games under Ruben Selles<\/a>\u2018 reign, the club decided to bring the legendary figure back to Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s current squad is more than talented enough to get themselves out of danger this season, but with exit-linked Gus Hamer sidelined since early October<\/a>, Wilder is clearly after more firepower.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United in talks to sign Patrick Bamford on a free transfer<\/p>\n

Wilder\u2019s current top goalscorer is midfielder Callum O\u2019Hare<\/a>, who has four goals so far, with Tyrese Campbell following shortly behind with three.<\/p>\n

However, according to the Daily Telegraph\u2019s Mike McGrath, Patrick Bamford<\/a> is in talks with the Blades, just months after leaving Leeds United<\/a> as a free agent, mainly due to his injury issues.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old\u2019s inability to remain fit is just one of the reasons that signing the striker appears to be a bad idea for the Championship strugglers, even if he is signed on a free transfer.<\/p>\n

Another huge issue about signing the veteran striker would be the history shared between manager and player, and while all appears sorted on the outside, it could create fireworks at Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

Chris Wilder has history with the former Leeds United man<\/p>\n

Leeds fans will remember the footage that went viral after the Whites secured promotion to the Premier League, with Bamford leading some rather crude chants about Wilder outside Elland Road.<\/p>\n

The striker appeared to get caught up in his emotions, even calling the United manager after the incident did the rounds on social media, and while Wilder understood, he was still not very forgiving.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Blades want to do everything in their power to avoid relegation to League One, which will likely mean bringing in reinforcements.<\/p>\n
