Lukas Nmecha got United off the mark from the penalty spot against Everton, and doubled his tally last time out at Forest with a superbly taken goal.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has one to his name, a great header in the win at Wolves. However, there’s a general agreement that Leeds’ summer business left them short of guaranteed goals.

Leeds United are struggling for goals under Daniel Farke. (Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Boyers)

Criticism shouldn’t be aimed purely at Leeds’ two free agent signings, who are working hard to make up for the woeful lack of service. But, if the Whites want to make the most of their inability to consistently create, they might need a striker that can score off scraps.

Should one of those strikers become available in the January window, and Leeds have the funds to pursue them, it’s surely worth considering.

Could Leeds United pursue Ivan Toney in January as Premier League return grows more likely?

A potential opening for Leeds and their Premier League rivals is England international Ivan Toney. The 29-year-old left Brentford for an opportunity in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, but Sky Sports revealed that he could be looking for a Premier League return in the new year.

Ivan Toney could be lined up for a return to the Premier League this January. (REUTERS/Stringer)

Ahead of the winter window, there is unsurprisingly a queue of clubs that would like to sign the striker, and talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claims Leeds are one of those.

“Everton, West Ham are another team in dire need of a No.9,” Crook said. “Thomas Frank would love Ivan Toney at Tottenham. Leeds you mentioned as well, half of the Premier League would love to take Ivan Toney.”

Would Ivan Toney be the missing piece for Leeds United’s Premier League survival bid?

First of all, it’s worth assessing the chances of Leeds signing Toney before thinking if he’d be a good signing.

He’s on extortionate Saudi Pro League wages

Wants to boost his chances of going to the 2026 World Cup

Therefore will want to join the best club possible

Will clearly have suitors better than Leeds

These four factors indicate Toney might not be someone within reach of Leeds. If Everton, Spurs, Manchester United or “half of the Premier League” want Toney, Leeds will be low down the pecking order.

That being said, a target man that can do everything would be perfect for Leeds. The issue is that these players are typically not available in January. They’re either too expensive, not within reach, or there’s a reason they are attainable. Those reasons could be fitness, poor form or underlying problems.

Toney would be great for Leeds, but that’s because he’s probably too good.

Read more: Another U21 Leeds United star continues to impress as Harry Gray grabs headlines…

Leeds United’s main goal during the January window will be to procure more firepower, either with an attacking…

[8814
748,25764,393,4884,67470,1860,2922,142361,142362,16,15
0":"post-566629","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-leeds","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-elland-road","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-ivan-toney","13":"tag-leeds","14":"tag-leeds-united","15":"tag-lufc","16":"tag-the-whites","17":"tag-uk","18":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
