{"id":566892,"date":"2025-11-13T04:46:24","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T04:46:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/566892\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T04:46:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T04:46:24","slug":"poland-hails-commissions-migration-plan-while-claiming-exemption-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/566892\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland hails Commission\u2019s migration plan while claiming exemption \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission had previously announced on Tuesday which EU countries will be eligible for assistance in dealing with migration pressure, and which countries will be exempt from helping out as part of an EU Solidarity Pool.<\/p>\n<p>It said that Poland \u2014\u00a0as well as Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia and Estonia \u2014\u00a0face significant migratory pressure and could request exemptions from the Solidarity Pool, which requires that member states accept a quota of asylum seekers, pay for each person they decline to take in, or offer another form of assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I said, Poland will not take in migrants under the Migration Pact. Nor will we pay for it. The decision has been made. We don\u2019t talk, we act,\u201d Prime Minister Donald Tusk\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/donaldtusk\/status\/1988298460555247635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote on X<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Polish government called the Commission\u2019s plan a \u201cmajor success,\u201d saying Warsaw had lobbied for months to be recognized as among the countries facing \u201cvery serious migratory situations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur partners [in the EU] know it very well, we\u2019re subject to a very big migration pressure and \u2026 we must not face any more commitments,\u201d government spokesman Adam Sz\u0142apka\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/UmYS4xi9G4Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said at a<\/a> Wednesday press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission\u2019s annual migration assessment, <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_25_2655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released Nov. 10<\/a>, found that irregular crossings into the EU were 35 percent lower in the July 2024 to June 2025 period compared to the previous 12 months.
