{"id":566947,"date":"2025-11-13T05:23:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T05:23:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/566947\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T05:23:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T05:23:21","slug":"uk-music-industry-warns-growth-threatened-by-ai-brexit-national-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/566947\/","title":{"rendered":"UK music industry warns growth threatened by AI, Brexit | National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Britain&#8217;s music industry contributed \u00a38 billion ($10.5 billion) to the UK economy in 2024, but the effects of Brexit and AI have clouded the sector&#8217;s outlook, an industry report showed Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>UK tours by Taylor Swift and Take That helped lift the industry&#8217;s contribution to the UK economy last year, according to the annual report from UK Music, an umbrella organisation for the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Music exports were also boosted by the international success of artists such as Charli XCX and Lola Young.<\/p>\n<p>However, annual growth was slower than the double-digit increases recorded in the immediate aftermath of the Covid pandemic, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>UK Music&#8217;s chief executive Tom Kiehl warned that the industry faced a number of challenges, pointing to the &#8220;need for urgent action&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the UK government would be judged on the &#8220;progress it makes in regulating artificial intelligence and unlocking EU touring&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keybiscayneportal.com\/news\/national\/hundreds-demonstrate-against-trump-son-in-law-project-in-belgrade\/article_30d666a4-a1e9-5925-b1bb-bf333033b73e.html\" class=\"tnt-asset-link\" aria-label=\"Hundreds demonstrate against Trump son-in-law project in Belgrade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>                &#13;<br \/>\n                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"Hundreds demonstrate against Trump son-in-law project in Belgrade\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full default\" width=\"455\" height=\"341\" data- data-\/><br \/>\n                <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The impact of Brexit, such as through increased touring costs, red tape and fewer EU clients making recording studio bookings, is &#8220;still bad and is getting worse&#8221;, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, two-thirds of music creators surveyed by UK Music said that AI poses a threat to their career.<\/p>\n<p>Ninety percent of British music creators said protections should be in place to stop their work being used without permission or payment.<\/p>\n<p>The UK government plans to make it easier for AI companies to access data by introducing a copyright exception for commercial AI training with its Data (Use and Access) Bill.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed law, companies developing AI models would not need permission from creatives to access certain content &#8212;
