{"id":567566,"date":"2025-11-13T11:58:22","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T11:58:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/567566\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T11:58:22","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T11:58:22","slug":"oneill-signs-up-for-two-more-seasons-at-trent-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/567566\/","title":{"rendered":"O&#8217;NEILL SIGNS UP FOR TWO MORE SEASONS AT TRENT BRIDGE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Australian seamer Fergus O\u2019Neill has signed a contract that will see him return to Trent Bridge during the 2026 and 2027 campaigns.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Neill will play County Championship cricket for Nottinghamshire from April to June for both of the next two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old made waves with a productive first foray into county cricket this summer, claiming 21 scalps in just four games at a miserly 17.90 apiece, including two five-wicket hauls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m keen to come back and make sure our momentum keeps rolling!\u201d said O\u2019Neill. \u201cTrent Bridge is a great place filled with great people, where I\u2019ve had success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith all the success I had, and we had as a team, it was a simple decision for me to sign on for not just one, but another two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Renowned for his relentless accuracy and ability to move the ball both ways, O\u2019Neill has previously been referred to as \u201cthe most feared bowler in the Sheffield Shield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his first stint at Trent Bridge, he won two consecutive Bill Lawry Medals, awarded to Victoria\u2019s First-Class Player of the Season, after taking 78 wickets in just 18 Shield matches.<\/p>\n<p>Despite landing in the UK just two days before Notts\u2019 2025 Championship opener at home to Durham, O\u2019Neill showed no signs of jet-lag and immediately collected 5\/81 in his first outing.<\/p>\n<p>Having also taken 5\/19 against Warwickshire at Edgbaston two weeks later, his efforts helped seal two wins in Notts\u2019 first four matches, building the base for the triumph that would follow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuccess is what I play for, so for as long as I\u2019m a part of Nottinghamshire, I\u2019ll be putting my best foot forward for us to win another Championship title.\u201d added O\u2019Neill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Head Coach Peter Moores continued: \u201cEvery now and then, you seem to sign a player who fits into the team perfectly, and Fergus was that man last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis impact on the field was clear for everyone to see, though it was his impact off it that also made a real difference.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His energy and excitement to play were infectious, as was belief in his own ability.
