It\u2019s been a good year for Jet2. This summer that advert\u00a0enjoyed the sort of online virality that marketing teams pray for, and\u00a0the other week\u00a0the carrier was named the most reliable provider in the UK<\/a>. That streak of\u00a0great\u00a0news isn\u2019t over \u2013 Jet2 has just announced that it will soon start flying from London\u00a0<\/strong>Gatwick Airport<\/strong>, in what bosses say is a \u2018game-changer\u2019 for customers.<\/p>\n

According to Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy, it\u2019s been a long-held ambition for the airline to join its competitors in the Sussex hub. Gatwick is the UK\u2019s (and London\u2019s) second largest airport, and already home to several low-cost operators like Wizz Air, Ryanair, and easyJet.<\/p>\n

Heapy described the move as a \u2018once in a generation opportunity to accelerate our growth\u2019, adding that it will give consumers more choice about where they go and when, particularly in the summer months. An aviation expert told the Independent<\/a> that extra competition at Gatwick will \u2018benefit the consumer with lower prices and better flight times\u2019.<\/p>\n

The airline also says that adding Gatwick to its roster will create nearly 300 jobs, ranging from cabin crew and pilots to engineers and ground staff.<\/p>\n

Several London airports are about to receive billion-pound upgrades<\/p>\n

Six Jet2 planes will be based at Gatwick, made possible by the \u2018release of additional capacity by the airport\u2019. This is only part of broader expansion plans, which include the\u00a0controversial decision to add an extra runway before 2030<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not alone \u2013 all of the capital\u2019s largest airports are in the midst of levelling up. Heathrow is set to receive an ambitious extension<\/a>, which has a projected cost of an eye watering \u00a349 billion. Meanwhile, Stansted has been working on upping visitor numbers<\/a> with a \u00a31 billion makeover since 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Plus Luton, another major budget hub, is about to get a brand new terminal<\/a>. Once all is said and done, London\u2019s airports will be pretty different \u2013 and a lot bigger \u2013 within a couple of years.<\/p>\n

Jet2\u00a0destinations\u00a0from London Gatwick and launch dates<\/p>\n

For now though, Jet2 will launch its first flights from Gatwick next March, just in time for the Easter holidays. Twenty nine \u2018sunshine destinations\u2019 will be on offer, with most routes taking off once or twice a week,. Mallorca and Faro, however, will be best served, with 10 flights per week.
