{"id":567913,"date":"2025-11-13T15:54:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T15:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/567913\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T15:54:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T15:54:16","slug":"why-spud-man-had-to-come-back-to-liverpool-for-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/567913\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Spud Man had to come back to Liverpool for Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cScousers you\u2019re brilliant \u2013 and I can\u2019t wait to serve you some spuds!<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no denying the excitement of Spud Man \u2013 aka Ben Newman \u2013 as he prepares to head to Liverpool this weekend to team up with the city\u2019s own jacket potato entrepreneur, John the Spud.<\/p>\n<p>After a successful summer pop-up at the Bus Yard in Crosby, the TikTok spud supremo is setting up his van at the Christmas Market outside St George\u2019s Hall, having turned down London to take on Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>Sky-high costs and proximity to his Staffordshire home have played their part in his decision to\u00a0swap\u00a0the capital\u00a0for Liverpool and spend the next six weeks here. But there\u2019s another reason too: \u201cWe just love Scousers!\u201d says Ben.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe and the team had such a good time at the Bus Yard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had people queueing for three hours and they still had a smile on their faces when they got to the van. There was bantering and we had a good laugh \u2013 and that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Spud-Man-Ben-Newman-1-scaled-e1763048376375.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229386\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have one bad customer. People were so lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ben, whose fans include A-list celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, was originally due to sell his spuds at the famous Christmas Market in Hyde Park, until a phone call from the city changed his mind.<\/p>\n<p>Now he\u2019s looking forward to a festive stint in the city \u2013 and getting to know it a little better.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI only got to see a bit of the city when I was here last time, so I can\u2019t wait to see more,\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAndy from the Bus\u00a0Yard has promised to take me around the local spots and John the Spud\u2019s a proper Scouser, so I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll have a few ideas of where to go too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are staying right in the middle of the city, so I want to be a proper tourist and do all the fun stuff, like the Beatles tour and things \u2013 if I get the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I love food \u2013 so I want to eat my way around Liverpool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ben, 41, is planning to be in Liverpool four days a week, leaving 18-year-old son Dylan \u2013 known as Lil Spud \u2013 and the rest of his team in Liverpool seven days a week, while he returns to his Tamworth pitch for the other days.<\/p>\n<p>With so many other stalls selling festive fayre, Ben plans to stick to his regular menu, although he says there might be a few seasonal specials: \u201cWe might put a bit of turkey on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" data-id=\"229385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Spud-Man-Ben-Newman-4-e1763048389836.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229385\"\/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" data-id=\"229384\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Spud-Man-Ben-Newman-2-e1763048400756.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229384\"\/><\/p>\n<p>And he adds:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never tried scouse, so 100% it would be great if someone brought down some scouse so we could stick it on a spud!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another thing is certain too: \u201cIf it goes well in Liverpool this Christmas, our visit to Liverpool could be an annual event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never count my chickens, but I am hoping we\u2019ll be busy, and it\u2019ll be great to spend time in the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to linking up with John the Spud, learning more about Liverpool, and serving loads of lovely Scousers with the humble jacket spud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The only problem Ben can foresee, is the language barrier.<\/p>\n<p>He laughs:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we were in Crosby, we obviously got a lot of Scouse customers which was great \u2026 except that I\u2019m from the Midlands and originally from the South, and I sometimes struggle to understand a really strong Scouse accent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So is there anything we can do to help Spud Man? \u201cYes please, just speak really slowly for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about Spud Man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/spudmantamworth\/?locale=en_GB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\nFind all the latest Liverpool news <a href=\"https:\/\/theguideliverpool.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Find out what\u2019s good up North on our new platform, The Northern Guide.<\/strong>\u00a0<br \/>\nFrom the best hotels, beauty spots, days out, food and more up North \u2013 visit<a href=\"https:\/\/thenorthernguide.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0thenorthernguide.com<\/a>\u00a0and follow The Northern Guide on Instagram\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/thenorthernguideuk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cScousers you\u2019re brilliant \u2013 and I can\u2019t wait to serve you some spuds!
