A Jason Statham film directed by a British legend is now available on catch-up after airing on TV<\/a> on Saturday. Loosely based on the 2004 film Cash Truck, Wrath of Man (2021) follows Statham\u2019s character H, a new cash truck driver in Los Angeles, whose foiling of a robbery leads to his gunslinging ability and murky past being questioned.<\/p>\n

Guy Ritchie was involved in the production, making Wrath of Man the first time he had worked with Statham since action-thriller Revolver (2005), which also featured Ray Liotta and Andr\u00e9 3000. Alongside Statham, Wrath of Man features Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Chris Reilly, Josh Nartnett, Laz Alonso, Ra\u00fal Castillo, DeObia Oparei, Eddie Marsan and Clint Eastwood<\/a>\u2019s son Scott. Never shown in UK cinemas<\/a>, the film went straight to Amazon Prime Video in December 2021 after being pushed back from its planned release date.<\/p>\n

Despite being withheld from British cinemagoers, the production grossed a huge $104 million at the global box office.<\/p>\n

Commercial success came despite a mixed critical response to the film.<\/p>\n

On the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, 67% of viewers left positive responses, with an average rating of 6.2\/10.<\/p>\n

Its consensus was: \u201cWrestling just enough stakes out of its thin plot, Wrath of Man sees Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham reunite for a fun, action-packed ride.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Peter Debruge wrote for Variety<\/a>: \u201cA few years ago, when Sam Mendes left the Bond franchise, Ritchie\u2019s name was floated as a possible replacement.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t take the gig, but Wrath of Man shows he certainly could have, classing up his signature technique while never quite abandoning the cockney swagger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about his reunion with Ritchie, Statham, 57, told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>: \u201cThis particular genre is a favourite of mine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love heist movies, I love revenge movies. Guy said he\u2019s got a great one up his sleeve, and it took about 30 seconds to convince me.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very organic kind of way to go to work with what Guy does. He wants to change things on a daily basis, so you should look at what the story is but never get too attached with what the dialogue of the day is, because it\u2019s very much an evolving, moving type of thing. So you just turn up with an open mind and you\u2019ll succeed.”<\/p>\n

The Spy and Snatch star made his first film with Ritchie in the fan-favourite crime hit Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.<\/p>\n

He recently starred in David Ayer\u2019s conspiracy thriller A Working Man and is slated to be starring in next year\u2019s Fast X: Part 2, reprising his role as Deckard Shaw.<\/p>\n
