of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/rain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rain<\/a> beginning today as Storm Olivier arrives during Holy Week.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier is the 15th <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/storms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">storm<\/a> named by Spain\u2019s\u00a0State Meteorological Agency, also called AEMET, <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/04\/02\/red-storm-alert-issued-parts-canary-islands-bringing-hurricane-winds-22839024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">following Nuria in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>March<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/15\/roads-transformed-rivers-ice-rain-hail-batters-holiday-hotspot-22733456\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> saw Spain rocked by four major storms<\/a>: Martinho, Laurence, Konrad and Jana.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters say Storm Olivier will crash into the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/canary-islands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canary Islands<\/a> \u2013 visited by some 6.3 million British tourists\u00a0last year \u2013 today.<\/p>\n<p>Strong winds and heavy rains will tear through the islands, especially La Palma, a mountainous island in the northwest of the Canaries. <\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/infotweet.aemet.es\/tu65.html?1744018568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">orange warning<\/a> shows that as much as 30mm of rain may soak La Palma, La Gomera, The Iron and Tenerife Fuerteventura alongside some parts of La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife have yellow weather warnings in place. <\/p>\n<p>As much as 90mm of rain may drench Tenerife\u00a0and Gran Canaria, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eltiempo.es\/noticias\/la-borrasca-que-banara-la-semana-santa-ya-tiene-nombre-olivier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eltiempo.es<\/a> reported. <\/p>\n<p>From Thursday, the storm will drift to the Iberian Peninsula, the western Spanish region adjoining Portugal, from the Atlantic. <\/p>\n<p>Though rainfall will continue in the Canary Islands.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier will bring thunderstorms and hail to the peninsula, with Andalusia and Murcia on the eastern coast expected to be the worst hit. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"470\" aemet.es<\/p>\n<p>Olivier will whip up stormy weather in Spain and Portugal until the weekend, weather officials say.<\/p>\n<p>Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see the heaviest rainfall, affecting Galicia\u00a0<br \/>Castile and Le\u00f3n, Extremadura, and western Andalusia as well as the Cantabrian Sea, Madrid, and Castile-La Mancha.<\/p>\n<p>As much as 90mm of rain will pour down on northern C\u00e1ceres. <\/p>\n<p>Temperatures will drop by as much as eight degrees in southern Spain, dragging temperatures in sun-splashed cities like C\u00f3rdoba where it\u2019s typically 25\u00b0C to the high 10s. <\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Antonio Maldonado, a Spanish meteorologist, stressed to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elplural.com\/sociedad\/borrasca-oliver-maldonado-prevision-tiempo-semana-santa-2025_349679102\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> El Plural<\/a>: \u2018The situation is not very clear and could change.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I believe that by Tuesday many areas will have moved toward stability, which is what is expected, although we will have to remain vigilant.\u2019<\/p>\n<p
