Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has explained why he believes his old club are out of the Premier League<\/a> title race this season. The Reds are currently in eighth place in the current standings after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City before the start of the international break.<\/p>\n

The loss at the Etihad Stadium means that Liverpool <\/a>have now been beaten five times in the league this season and have just 18 points to their name with 11 fixtures played.<\/p>\n

The defeat also means that the Reds have now already surpassed the number of losses that they suffered on their way to winning the title last season (four).<\/p>\n

Arne Slot’s<\/a> side are eight points behind leaders Arsenal with 27 matches left to play this season, but may already have an eye on qualifying for the Champions League<\/a> as their priority.<\/p>\n

As a result, Fowler has explained why he believes the points difference between Liverpool and Arsenal already makes the title out of reach for the Reds.<\/p>\n

“The manager will come out and he’ll say all of the right things, and you can’t say ‘we’ve given up’ cause that looks terrible from an outsider looking in,” said Fowler on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.<\/p>\n

“You’ve got to have a little bit of realism as well, because history tells you there’s probably only been two teams that have won the Premier League on the back of six or seven defeats.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo if Liverpool are going to win the league now, they\u2019ve got to win virtually every game.<\/p>\n

“They can’t even draw games, they’ve got to win them. So I think they’re out of the title.\u201d<\/p>\n
