{"id":568213,"date":"2025-11-13T19:01:18","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T19:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/568213\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T19:01:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T19:01:18","slug":"baby-week-uk-turns-10-in-the-city-where-it-first-began","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/568213\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Week UK turns 10 in the city where it first began"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"624\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Baby-Week-Leeds-4_cropped.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Leeds is marking a major milestone as the birthplace of Baby Week UK when the annual event for the city\u2019s youngest residents returns \u2013 and this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Running from November 14-20 2025 at venues across the city, the week aims to showcase the wealth of support and activities on offer locally for babies, toddlers, new parents and families of children aged five and under.<\/p>\n<p>The annual initiative was first established in Leeds in 2016 \u2013 the brainchild of Lucy Potter, a former Leeds City Council family support worker from Beeston who had travelled to Brazil on a fellowship and wanted to replicate the success of their UNICEF-funded \u2018Semana do Bebe\u2019 project, as we <a href=\"https:\/\/southleedslife.com\/improving-engagement-families-services-usa-brazil-beeston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>reported back in 2014<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, it has grown fast \u2013 becoming a registered charity in 2018 and now emulated in 20 other regions across the UK, including Nottingham, Newcastle and Cambridgeshire.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme is \u2018Healthy Parent, Healthy Baby\u2019 and in Leeds, over 175 activities are set to take place throughout the week including taster sessions, health and wellbeing talks and parenting classes \u2013 all free or at low cost.<\/p>\n<p>Founder Lucy, who remains a trustee of Baby Week UK, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s incredible to see the vision we brought to Leeds back in 2016 grow on a national scale and continue to bring services and sectors together to promote the best start in life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis week has become a real one-stop shop to celebrate babies and young children and show a full range of activities and help on offer across Leeds and the UK so parents and carers know where to look for crucial advice and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Activities in Leeds will include music classes, postnatal yoga, a nationwide online \u2018introduction to first aid course\u2019 and a baby and toddler takeover day at the Thackray Museum of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Leeds children\u2019s centres, family hubs, libraries and Active Leeds leisure centres are also hosting over 75 sessions between them throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>This year Leeds is also holding a free national conference for professionals focusing on health, early years and good practice on November 20, when Leeds City Council and partners will also be launching a new 10-year strategy to improve outcomes for 0-5-year-olds in Leeds.<\/p>\n<p>Called \u2018Best Start and Beyond\u2019, the strategy is jointly led by the authority\u2019s public health and education teams, bringing together partners from the NHS and voluntary sector.
