{"id":568643,"date":"2025-11-13T23:40:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T23:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/568643\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T23:40:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T23:40:00","slug":"meet-the-charities-and-fundraising-heroes-in-the-final-of-the-guide-liverpool-heroes-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/568643\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the charities and fundraising heroes in the final of The Guide Liverpool Heroes 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We can\u2019t wait to celebrate the city heroes who make us proud in the first ever Guide Liverpool Heroes 2025 awards.<\/p>\n<p>For the last 10 years we\u2019ve been sharing so many amazing stories of the individuals, fundraisers, charities and businesses who make our city region so great.<\/p>\n<p>And, to mark our landmark birthday this year, it\u2019s time to honour them.<\/p>\n<p>The Guide Liverpool HEROES 2025<strong> <\/strong>awards, brought to you by Liverpool Cruise Port and in Partnership with San Carlo Restaurants, will be held at the Titanic Hotel on Friday, November 21.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will focus on everything from community projects, charities and emergency services to sports heroes and influencers, with four special awards \u2013 one to be revealed only on the night.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s going to be an amazing evening and, until then, let us introduce you to the charities of the year and the fundraising warriors who have made it to the final\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charity of the Year finalists<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Claire House Children\u2019s Hospice<\/strong><br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/claire_house_wirral.jpg__1024x844_q50_crop_progressive_subject_location-21281561_subsampling-2_upsca.jpeg\" alt=\"The Guide Liverpool Heroes 2025 - Claire House\" class=\"wp-image-229393\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>There when they\u2019re needed most, Claire House Children\u2019s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by\u202fcreating wonderful experiences, while bringing back a sense of normality to family life. By providing specialist nursing and end of life care, as well as emotional support, Claire House helps families through some of the toughest times of their lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clatterbridge Cancer Charity<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/6-YinYanBand.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51573\"  \/>World Ukulele Day at Liverpool One to raqise money for Clatterbridge;<\/p>\n<p>Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is dedicated to supporting cancer patients and their families, funding life-saving research, treatment and care across Merseyside and Cheshire. Through donations, it ensures Clatterbridge Cancer Centre stays at the forefront of care, with new ways to treat the disease, bringing cancer care closer to patients\u2019 homes and being the first in the UK to offer certain clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Beginnings \u2013 Improving Lives<\/strong>\u00a0<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"798\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/G38x98SXMAAc2GS.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229396\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2019 by Michelle Roach, a former NHS worker with lived in experience of mental health and cancer, New Beginnings \u2013 Improving Lives was established to support and signpost people who were unable to access services. Since then, the grassroots charity has grown and is transforming communities, offering everything from free boxing and food support to vital wellbeing and family services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>North West Cancer Research<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"558\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Screenshot-2024-02-27-at-16.54.39-e1709053160503-1024x558.png\" alt=\"North West Cancer Research\" class=\"wp-image-192470\"\/><\/p>\n<p>North West Cancer Research funds pioneering local research, education and community projects \u2013 tackling cancer rates in our region and improving lives for generations to come. Since 2000, North West Cancer Research has funded more than \u00a355 million of world-class research and although it focuses on cancers most likely to affect people here, it shares its findings and works with the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sahir House<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/FZFJYKGWAAcewc3.jpeg\" alt=\"Sahir House\" class=\"wp-image-150168\"  \/>Credit: Sahir House<\/p>\n<p>Sahir House is Liverpool\u2019s oldest LGBTQ+ and HIV charity, providing vital support, advocacy and community for people across the city region. In this, its 40th anniversary year, it also stepped in to ensure that \u2018Liverpool\u2019s Pride\u2019 would go ahead with a new name and new hope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tom Harrison House<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/tom_harrison_house_cover.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229398\"  \/>Picture \u2013 Tom Harrison House<\/p>\n<p>Tom Harrison House is the UK\u2019s only veteran-specific addiction recovery centre, saving lives and supporting ex-service personnel and their families. As well as drop-in breakfast sessions, a wellbeing activities programme and accommodation and move-on support, it offers a 12-week residential programme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fundraising Hero\u00a0Finalists<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Jack Dowling<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Jack-Dowling.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-196021\"  \/>Jack Dowling<\/p>\n<p>Blues performance coach Jack Dowling set himself the tough challenge to undertake 26 marathons in 26 weeks in honour of his late brother Tom who died from bowel cancer. Jack completed the marathons and smashed his original fundraising target of \u00a332,500 \u2013 the cost of one Macmillan Cancer Support nurse for 26 weeks \u2013 to collect more than \u00a372,000. On October 1 last year\u2013 Tom\u2019s birthday \u2013 he decided to run 26 minutes every hour for 26 hours taking his total to more than \u00a3100,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olly Harrison<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_0713-960x720-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229399\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Farmer Olly has raised hundreds of thousands with his epic tractor convoys and charity campaigns, rallying and cheering communities to support North West Air Ambulance. This year too Olly, who has a farm in Tarbock, revealed he has now raised \u00a3100,000 by doing birthday shout-outs on the bumper of his tractor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Rigby<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"764\" height=\"584\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Alex-Rigby.jpeg\" alt=\"Runner Alex Rigby - Fundraiser for Centre 56\" class=\"wp-image-212939\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Alex became the first person to run to all 69 Merseyrail stations in just over 24 hours, covering a staggering 109 miles \u2013 the equivalent of four marathons! He raised \u00a356,000 for Kirkdale-based Centre 56 which offers free specialist nursery care and support for children and their families who\u2019ve suffered domestic abuse, trauma or crisis \u2026 and sparked a city-wide movement of kindness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicola Carragher<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"740\" height=\"740\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Nicola-Carragher-Tokyo-Marathon-740x740-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229400\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Mum of two Nicola is passionate about children\u2019s health and their futures, and her support of Alder Hey goes back over decades. To raise vital funds for the city\u2019s much-loved children\u2019s hospital of which she is a patron, Nicola \u2013 wife of former LFC defender and pundit Jamie \u2013 set herself an ambitious challenge to run all seven world major marathons consecutively within 12 months. And she did it!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ged Finnegan<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Ged-Finnegan.jpg\" alt=\"Ged Finnegan\" class=\"wp-image-206958\"  \/>Ged Finnegan<\/p>\n<p>Ged did his first 26-mile Kate\u2019s Coastal Walk in 2018, marking the 20th\u00a0anniversary of his daughter\u2019s death at the age of just 13. Since then the retired teacher from Woolton has raised more than \u00a3100,000 for Zoe\u2019s Place \u2013 now Little Lights Liverpool Baby Hospice \u2013 showing incredible dedication to supporting babies and families in need and vowing to carry on \u2018to my dying day\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phill Hayward<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Barefoot-10k-runner-Phill-Hayward-3.jpg\" alt=\"Wirral PE Teacher - The Guide Liverpool\" class=\"wp-image-223271\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The Wirral PE teacher ran a charity 10K every day for a year \u2013 and to make it more interesting, he undertook the epic challenge in bare feet! Phill raised thousands for the Alzheimer\u2019s Society, running in rain, shine, snow, ice, and storms to complete the equivalent distance of Liverpool to Cairo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neil Atherton<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"920\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Buswalker-Neil-Atherton.jpg\" alt=\"Buswalker Neil Atherton\" class=\"wp-image-211173\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The Arriva instructor from Widnes has\u00a0walked countless bus routes over the last five years to raise vital funds and collect donations for local food banks.
