Italian architecture firm Novembre Studio<\/a> has completed a polycarbonate<\/a> padel centre at Milan<\/a>‘s CityLife development, which was designed in response to the adjacent CityWave office<\/a> by BIG<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Named the Golden Goose Arena, the 12-metre-tall sports centre<\/a> contains seven indoor padel courts, a cafe, lounge area, clothing shop, as well as two outdoor padel courts.<\/p>\n

Clad in polycarbonate panels, the padel centre’s blocky form has a semi-transparent lower portion topped by a translucent upper level that curves up and overhangs 17 metres over the entrance.<\/p>\n

Located in a park in the CityLife district, which was formerly Milan’s trade fair grounds, the gently curved shape of the Golden Goose Arena was designed to mirror the swooping form of the neighbouring CityWave office building by BIG<\/a>, which is currently under construction.<\/p>\n

Novembre Studio<\/a> wanted the padel centre to blend in with the surrounding architecture at CityLife, which also features skyscrapers\u00a0by Zaha Hadid Architects<\/a>,\u00a0Daniel Libeskind<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Arata Isozaki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“The arena was built right next to the CityWave building, responding to the recognisable curve of BIG’s design with a mirror tilt,” said Novembre Studio.<\/p>\n

“The entrance to the building was raised, generating a dialogue between the two architectures, almost a dance \u2013 a symbolic portal that introduces CityLife from the northeast, a formal yet urban gesture that connects and orients.”<\/p>\n

The padel centre was designed to be a social and cultural gathering space that encourages healthy living.<\/p>\n

“Public in nature and accessible to all, the structure promotes a healthy and inclusive lifestyle, integrating perfectly with the urban and landscape design of CityLife,” said Novembre Studio.<\/p>\n

The transparent and translucent cladding lets natural light inside during the day and creates a glowing effect at night.<\/p>\n

“Made of polycarbonate, the structure transforms in the evening into a luminous lantern in the CityLife park, a symbol of energy and community,” said Novembre Studio.<\/p>\n

The Golden Goose Arena padel centre is topped with photovoltaic panels, and its steel structure was left exposed in the interior.<\/p>\n

BIG’s CityWave topped out earlier this year. Once it is complete, the office building will have a 140-metre-long sweeping roof entirely clad in photovoltaic tiles.<\/p>\n

Last year, investment firm Yntegra Group constructed a floating padel court<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Miami Harbor using recycled steel from shipyards.<\/p>\n
