{"id":570584,"date":"2025-11-14T20:45:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T20:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/570584\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T20:45:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T20:45:14","slug":"danny-murphy-expresses-surprise-at-who-could-replace-brendan-rodgers-at-celtic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/570584\/","title":{"rendered":"Danny Murphy expresses &#8216;surprise&#8217; at who could replace Brendan Rodgers at Celtic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Brendan Rodgers\u2019 exit from Celtic was brutal. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dermot Desmond didn\u2019t mince his words, and he made his feelings clear on the Treble-winning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Celtic<\/a> coach, but now he is tasked with bringing in a new face. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/danny-murphy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danny Murphy<\/a> played at the highest level, including winning trophies at Liverpool, and he knows what it\u2019s like when there is a change of manager from a player\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n<p>But when Murphy was told that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/celtic-told-how-the-hoops-would-fit-in-andy-robertson-under-the-next-possible-coach-wilfried-nancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wilfried Nancy could become Celtic\u2019s next manager<\/a>, he wasn\u2019t so sure and shared his doubts. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/GettyImages-2245190920-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Wilfried Nancy watches on during the MLS Cup play-off match between Columbus Crew v FC Cincinnati\" class=\"wp-image-335188\" \/>Photo by Jason Mowry\/Getty ImagesDanny Murphy questions Celtic\u2019s push for manager target Wilfried Nancy<\/p>\n<p>Celtic have gone left-field before. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/ange-postecoglou-responds-to-alan-brazils-infamous-comments-before-celtic-appointment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The reaction to Ange Postecoglou\u2019s appointment in 2021<\/a> resulted in many people having egg on their faces.<\/p>\n<p>The J-League coach didn\u2019t just win the title back for Celtic, but he also went on to win the Treble and write his name into the club\u2019s legendary books. <\/p>\n<p>But with suggestions that another appointment of that kind could be made, Murphy told talkSPORT he would be \u2018surprised\u2019 if the powers that be give it the green light. <\/p>\n<p>Murphy expressed how it\u2019s a \u2018massive change of culture and expectation\u2019 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/tag\/wilfried-nancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nancy<\/a>, from being a coach in the MLS to having to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.67hailhail.com\/news\/what-rocco-vata-told-watford-about-celtic-pressure-after-leaving-last-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">manage a club like Celtic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy added that you can have whatever you want on your CV; it all comes down to how you present yourself to the players. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a risk, I mean, any appointment is a risk,\u201d said Murphy. \u201cBut it\u2019s a big ask to go from managing over there to a size of the club like Celtic, with no affiliation to the club and understanding of it. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suppose you could argue on the flip side, without all of that historical knowledge, if you like and bond with the club. You are just fully focused on the job in hand, you go clean slate. I don\u2019t know.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reputation of a manager or his CV only takes you so far with the group of guys. It can give you respect, obviously, for a certain amount of time. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if the coaching isn\u2019t great. The results aren\u2019t great, and you\u2019re not on board. That soon dissipates. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would be surprised if Celtic takes that much of a gamble on somebody over there \u2013 it\u2019s a massive change of culture and expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brendan Rodgers\u2019 exit from Celtic was brutal.
