This is the state of a main shopping road in Birmingham following a day of heavy rain.<\/p>\n

Stratford Road, in Sparkhill, resembles a river as Storm Claudia continues to batter the country with torrential downpours.<\/p>\n

Mohammed Rafi, who owns UK Furniture, said cars were driving through the muddy waters which were lapping his front door.<\/p>\n

Mr Rafi said he had only had one customer since 1pm and that was only to shelter from the relentless downpours.<\/p>\n

He said: “Every time it rains, it floods and it’s been flooded all day.<\/p>\n

“I’ve complained to many local councillors so many times and they say they have been down and the pipe is too small and will come back and sort it out.<\/p>\n

“The water has been so bad today that it comes close to the front door.<\/p>\n

“You can’t stop the cars going through as it’s a busy shopping street.”<\/p>\n

The flooding is particularly bad from Greswolde Road to the corner of Grove Road.<\/p>\n

Mr Rafi added: “Since 1pm, I have had one customer come in and he just wanted to get out of the rain.”<\/p>\n

Council Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Storm Claudia is bringing severe rainfall and localised flooding to parts of Birmingham<\/a>, including Stratford Road.<\/p>\n

“Our council teams are working around the clock with emergency services to manage flood risks, clear drains, and keep residents safe. <\/p>\n

“I urge everyone to stay home if possible, avoid flooded roads, and take extra care when travelling. <\/p>\n

“Thank you to all our staff, the emergency services and volunteers who are working tirelessly to protect our city during this severe weather.”<\/p>\n
